Instead of ‘go and get, go and see, etc.
Does it irritate anyone else?

(Non-pedants wanting to tell me to get a life need not bother replying, thank you.)

I am just so delighted that someone has found a new topic for Pedants' corner where threads normally revert to the same old, same old peeves by post 10.

Go figure!

😁😁😁
Go for it!

Today I sent a quick message to MrB to remind him about something. Swipe typing on a phone, I used "go see" rather than "go to see". If I had been speaking I would have said "go to see".

I concluded that the phenomenon was probably caused by (speed) text messaging.

Language evolves.

Language does evolve but maybe not in a good way.

Out of interest plus a strong conviction that go + bare infinitive is nothing new in the English language, I googled the words "go seek thy fortune".
Lo and behold, Shakespeare used those very words in Troilus and Cressida. grin.

I don’t like gotten, a word my SInL often uses. However, according to previous threads, it’s actually an English word, first used in 1535. Both Chaucer and Shakespeare (and others) wrote it, before it fell into disuse.
Still grates on me.

I'm just home from a month in NZ. There's no hope I'm afraid.
DGS aged 11 asked me if we should grab a sandwich
I said nothing 😒
