Did you post this in Pedant's corner on purpose? I nearly scrolled past.

MaizieD Mon 22-Dec-25 09:31:04

The pedantry comes when some clever b*gger points out that the 21st December was 24 hours long, just like the remaining 364 days of the year...

Shortest number of daylight hours...

yogitree Mon 22-Dec-25 09:37:55

Yay! Thank Goodness. Bring on the Springtime it's been dark too long. I've been looking forward to this day for months here in deepest, darkest Scotland.

😂

It was so dark and wet here that the daylight only seem to last for a couple of hours.

Allira Mon 22-Dec-25 10:38:50

Correction: seemed not seem (as it's Pedants' Corner)

keepcalmandcavachon Mon 22-Dec-25 10:59:59

'Tis the season of goodwill 😀

Sorry, cabbagewars, I look at the thread headings before I look at the thread. I am probably the only person in here who does.

Are you new - i don't recall seeing your name before - anyway welcome.

Not really. You wouldn’t expect to find your teapot in the freezer or the bread in your knicker drawer would you?

Wyllow3 Mon 22-Dec-25 20:49:45

Oh, I don't know. I sometimes try to put the washing in the microwave...

Casdon Mon 22-Dec-25 20:52:54

I keep cashmere jumpers in the freezer over the summer to avoid moth holes. Were a strange lot on Gransnet.

As it’s Pedants’ Corner, maybe you were - but are you still? tchgrin

Yes, and an unreliable grammar checker to boot!

Perhaps the forum could be labelled No SOH corner?

Wyllow3 Mon 22-Dec-25 21:57:05

What is a SOH corner?

Primrose53 Mon 22-Dec-25 22:00:42

My Dad used to love it when the days got longer and used to say “you can have your tea in daylight by Valentine’s Day”. He was right as he always had his tea at 5 o’clock. We think of him every year.

What is a SOH corner?

Sense of humour.

Well, I did once buy some school socks in Sainsbury's for one of the DC, the till operator very kindly helped me to pack. I got home, packed the shopping away but couldn't find the socks so thought I had left them in the shop.

A couple of weeks later I found them in the freezer at the bottom of the poly bag containing bread.
