Hating ‘on’ instead of just ‘hating’.

I’ve seen this twice in the past couple of days - in both cases the ‘on’ was completely redundant.
Is it another blasted import from across the pond?

I don't mind 'meeting up', but 'meeting with' sounds wrong to me. 'I met Fred yesterday', says it all - there is no need for I met with Fred'. He would have to be there for you to meet him. I suppose we could have 'I met up with Fred' to be really irritating grin

Did you and Fred have fun?🤭

I often use "met up with +name" for an arranged get-together at a pre-determined location

When I just say "I met + name", I would usually meen that I encountered that person by chance.

In grammatical terms:

Formal pre-arranged - to meet with + definite article = I met with Fred/the board/the director

Informally or by chance - met + definite article = I met Fred in the high street

Meeting up with is a (usually American) aberration of to meet with and is often misapplied both formally and informally

Really pedantic!
