if it makes some of you feel better my young dog had a poo near the door because i wouldnt drag my old body out of bed at 3 this morning

When I was a child my grandparents had a Cairn Terrier Frank he was the most gentle natured lovely creature. We children, dressed him up in clothes and he just sat there looking at us with his huge brown eyes . I adored that dog. When my late grandad was very poorly and virtually at the end of his life, Sandy never left his side and they died within a week of each other. We called him Sandy the King of the Dogs !

Andie is a cairn terrier.
He did not bark this morning but I did hear him get up at about 5am, he went down stairs and I think he had a look around and came back up.
He then came in to my room and then returned to his basket.
I think he was doing his guard dog duty.

This whole thread reminds me of the (very) old Ken Dodd joke about when you want to know what time it is you bang very loudly on a drum and someone will throw up the window and yell 'Who's that banging a drum at 4 o'clock in the morning?'. Perhaps the people outside Frank's window just wanted to know what the time was and hoped that Frank the window and (kindly) let them know!!

I read somewhere dogs are as smart as a 3-4 year old child.I think they're smarter.

I have not seen any Milk Men around the area and I think Jehovah's Witnessess avoid the close as every house has a dog and the owners leave them barking when they are talking.

All dogs are working dogs.
As soon as Andie got to the house at 8 weeks old we told him his job was to guard the house.
He cried on his first night and barked the next day.
I think he settled down very quick probably because he sensed our previous dog and realised he had come to get us over our grief.
All the other dogs appear to do the same job for their owners.

Dogs never stop working even when they are pensioners.

It is a close. It would be difficult to get a coach up the close.
Everybody human is a pensioner in the close so it is unusual to have people outside on the pavement.
Andie is not a pensioner yet as he is 50 in doggy years.

My guess is that Shrodinger did not have a cat and thought that one would behave nicely inside a dark box while philosophers endlessly debated its hypothetical, or real, existence. And the meaning of existence. He had a dog and knew it would be trying to fight its way out before the lid was shut.
Never did really get philosophy myself.
If he had a hypothetical hamster being quiet in the box it might be more realistic.

I'll bet his were trained not to bark in the night!
