Some people may think it was a bit early but I decided to take Andie for his walk at 5.30 this morning while it was reasonably cool.
I was a little surprised to find several dogs in the park with their owners.
He can now sleep all day if he wants or he will probably say he is resting his eyes as his job is to guard.
I could not get a cup of tea as the café was closed.

Best time of day to be walking when it is going to be hot. I have been for my walk too, and made my baguette for lunch. Would love to cut the grass, but don't think my neighbours would be too pleased!
I hope you and Andie manage to find some shade for a restful day.

Andie likes to sleep on the tiles in the utility room which is on the north side of the house.
I got him a piece of carpet which is about 36 inches by 36 inches to make him a bit more comfortable.
He does not use it.

Yes, I've been too lazy to do the early morning walk, so will have to wait till the sun goes down. One of my dogs suffers badly if he gets overheated.
Good decision not to cut the grass Shysal if you want to stay on speaking terms with the neighbours grin. I've had to turn my water feature off overnight as one of the neighbours complained it keeps her awake at night hmm ah well...

Frank perhaps Andy doesn't like the pattern?

HUNTERF Sun 07-Jul-13 09:31:16

Ah but it was a sample from the carpet in the lounge and he likes that.

Aka perhaps the sound of running water caused her to have to get up more often during the night wink

Frank- What type of dog is Andie and how old is he?

Andie is a cairn terrier and he is 7.
People say he is very intelligent for a domestic dog and he does seem to take a great interest in the house.

My immediate neighbours say I am welcome to cut the grass early in the morning as far as they are concerned.
I am a little bit concerned about the people slightly further away.
I have an electric mower and they say that they can hardly hear it.

Oddly enough we did have a word with some teenagers when I lived in London and they played with some radio controlled cars on the car park.
We did say that there was no problem in the day but it got a bit annoying after about 9pm.
They immediately said they would stop at 9pm and they honoured their promise.
They also asked if there were any babies in the immediate area.
They said if any came let them know and they will stop earlier.
I think they were fair.

My favourite small breed! Cairns are cracking little dogs - always ready for another game - and my Charley was always ready for a swim... the blighter had me in the river trying to get him out once... I still miss him...

Lovely little dogs Cairn terriers friends had one and he had them up the wall with his antic's he was so funny and never got tired,my Barney the rescued JR is now so laid back and lazy he has really settled in since he came to us nearly 4 yrs ago he even lets the children dress him up as you can see in my profile, when he first came he wouldn't let anyone near him such a lovely change in a special little dog.

We have had a scottie, westie and 3 Cairn terriers and we have obviously been sad when they pass away.
We have always been quick to replace.
The way we see it is they have given us so much joy and we always think that way we can reward our previous dog is to give another dog a home.
None of them have been rescue dogs but 2 of them have belonged to owners who have died.
My daughters each have a cairn all male and they do Race for Life.
They dress them in pink ribbons take them around the course.
When I visit them Andie suddenly becomes my daughters dog and their dogs become mine.
My daughters dogs are about a year older and they were obviously upset when my previous cairn passed away.
Somehow I think they passed a message on to Andie on how to behave as he is so similar behaviour wise to my previous dog.

Andie to me, appears to be a very well cared for and loving little dog. Not many people would get up so early to take their dog for a walk so that both could avoid the heat and intensity of the mid day sun.

My father and myself have done our best for all of our dogs and he is well looked after.
When he came I think he realised we had not got over the grief of losing our previous dog even though he was only 8 weeks old so he had a heavy weight on his shoulders.
Sadly my father is now deceased but my 2 daughters would look after him as well so I can not see him ever being neglected.
Andie must have thought what do those 2 men who were 6 foot tall want a little dog like him for but he soon realised.
And I will soon be taking him for his final walk of the day but not too far as it is still hot.

So Gransneters are not worried Andie has been for his main walk for today along with my daughter's 2 cairns.
In view of the heat we will not be taking them far today.
We have decided to try having all 3 together mainly in my utility room and leave the door in to the garden open to see how they go.
Of course we will make sure they have plenty of cold water and they may get a cup of tea each.
Andie does not mind sharing his garden with them.
They have got their own garden but Andie's may be the most suitable as it faces north.

How nice for Andie to have his friends to stay. Was it a sleepover or just an early morning meet up?

Aka

They stayed at their own houses over night and 2 of us had the 3 dogs between us this morning.
Really my daughters will want their dogs back tonight but they may stay as we think my house is the most suitable in this heat.
We will obviously act in the best interest of the dogs.

I have a new GSD puppy, who likes her walks, but seems somewhat apprehensive of other dogs - she hid under my chair for most of last weeks puppy training !

We are taking h rout early morning and late evening due to the heat
