So sorry to hear this. If someone has taken the collar I would like to think its because they planned to ring but something stopped them. When you have had a pet for a long time they really do become a member of the family.

The people who killed DD2 cat actually moved the body further up the street to make it look like it had been killed beyond their house. Other neighbours saw them do it.

How very sad for you and your daughter Sue, I'm so sorry. One of my cats was killed outside this house two weeks after we'd moved in, he was a very special cat but the young couple who had hit him knocked on doors to find his owner and were terribly distraught themselves. It helped. Why on earth would anyone remove his collar and not ring you? to both you and your daughter.

It's awful losing a cat like that; before the A50 was built we lived on a really busy road and I lost a few cats. The only thing I will say is that it's better to know what has happened to the cat, painful as it is at the time [I can remember crying all night] than a cat disappearing and never knowing what has happened to it. But, they do need their freedom. I started having pedigree house cats because I was so scared of losing another one, but I'd much rather let a cat have it's freedom; it's what they want .

What a horrible thing, and without the collar you might never have known what had happened if your daughter hadn't found her. Perhaps the person who took the collar had meant to ring and just forgot. It seems a strange thing to do vindictively.

I am sorry to hear this Sue.
Even though I am a dog person and for some reason cats do not get on with me I still understand cats are very important to their owners.
I know some people disagree with me but I do think the best way to get over the loss of a dog is to get another dog asap and I think the same must apply to cats.

I'm so sorry to hear about your wee cat, Sue. We've always had cats, for as long as I can remember, and when one of ours was knocked down and killed on our road a few years ago I found it terribly hard to deal with, feeling guilty that he'd been near enough the road for it to happen. But, as Tegan said, they must have their freedom, because that's what cats do - roam.
Whenever one of our much-loved pets dies, we feel as if we'll never get over it. We've always waited a few weeks then contacted Cats' Protection and applied for another rescue one. I can't see my life without a cat in it. Hope today's easier for you and your daughter. .

The difference with cats Frank is that a new cat frequently finds you, whether you feel ready or not! I have seen a new cat turn up at a home where there is a new vacancy so often!
