Millie's Op.

We took Millie to the vet this morning to have a final discussion on whether or not to go ahead with anal gland removal. The right sac is badly infected again despite four treatments with antibiotics so we really have no choice. The lump in the left gland is still there but no bigger so a biopsy will be done when she has the op in two weeks time.

We're pinning our hopes on the lump being harmless but prepared for the fact it might be something more serious.

My poor sis-in-law is worried stiff about her Cavalier King Charles spaniel who is seriously ill with side effects from medication for a shoulder injury.

Definitely a down side to having pets.

How awful for you and your SIL I really feel for you all and those poorly dogs I do hope things go well and they both return to good health soon.flowers Poppy was off colour last week and we took her to see the vet who pronounced her fit and well and couldn't find any problems, suddenly we found the reason, when she came to us 5mths ago we did not know if she had been spayed or not and she came into season on Monday so she will be off to the vets in about 6 weeks for the operation, she has certainly improved as the week has gone on and looks as though she is becoming her old self again.

merlot it does seem that removal is the best option, poor love. Fingers crossed for Millie.

True, the downside of having pets.

At least the decision has been made for you; hope that you'll get good news about the lump.

After two postponements, Millie's op will be tomorrow. Her anal glands are still infected with a bug that is resistant to every antibiotic the vet has tried and the lump is still there although it hasn't grown which is a relief.

I'll be glad when it's done but we then have to wait for the results of the biopsy. I keep telling myself that as the lump was discovered in April and it hasn't grown that must be good!!

The vet who specializes in anal gland removal is an hour away so it won't be worth coming home and then back again to collect her. Good excuse to find somewhere nice for lunch!!

Millie isn't batting an eyelid about any of this. She's so used to having her bottom examined she even wags her tail when the vet puts his gloves on. hmm

Good luck for tomorrow. Tempting fate to say this but seem to be going through a good patch with my dog [although did fancy that I heard a few fireworks go off in the distance tonight which means that dreaded time of year is soon to be upon us sad].

I hope Millie makes a speedy recovery. Have a good lunch and try not to worry too much. flowers

Poor Millie has had a pretty rough time. The op took longer than expected as the thickened anal gland was very tricky to remove. We won't know the result of the biopsy until Wednesday but I don't think it's going to be good news. sad

Her poor bottom is battered and bruised and all she wants to do is cuddle up next to me on the sofa. The vet will have another look at her on Wednesday and by then we should know what we're up against.

I know she couldn't have been in better hands though. Our vet's husband did the op. Being so close to Newmarket and Cambridge we have a good choice of referral centres so I'm trying to stay positive.

Poor Millie; give her a hug from me please, merlot.

Poor Millie! Lots of TLC and cuddles! I hope she feels better soon and that the result of the biopsy is good flowers

Thanks, Tegan and Deedaa

Poor Millie has a bum like a baboon and we didn't get much sleep last night as she was desperate to lick the wound even though she was wearing a collar. We managed to divert the manic licking with a filled Kong until she finally went to sleep.

She's much better today and is eating and drinking normally so it's back to the vet tomorrow to see what's what.

merlotgran I do feel for poor Millie. She does not understand why her rear end is so sore and itchy. Hopefully she will get better each day. I doubt if she will want to see the vet tomorrow!

So pleased to hear Millie is a bit better today and eating and drinking well. I'm hoping the news tomorrow is good.
