posh dog or what- we adopted Slinky a couple of years back when our DD2 was no longer able to give him quality time in his old age. Now I've never bought the Tatler and perhaps once thumbed a copy at the dentists' - far to posh for me, lol :

Thank you so much all- it seems so quiet here tonight and I keep looking for him and then remembering...

but as said, feel so much better that we made a quick decision, and that it was the right one. The vet was full of praise for how we dealt with his diabetes and blindness- and said it was so rare for such a long and happy survival beyond diagnosis, especially at this advanced age.

Sadness granjura, Slinky sounds like a prince among dogs you were so lucky to have each other. God bless Slinky, go chase those rabbits in the sky.

Every condolence granjura. We love our dogs and it is heartbreaking. Despite your sleepless night, it sounds mercifully quick and Slinky will have fallen asleep in the arms of the people he loved most. Not many of us are granted that privilege

sad can't see properly as eyes have filled up. Condolences granjura. And RIP Slinky, the much loved and cool dog that had his photo in Tatler. Oh, can't see, off for a tissue.

Well, no more travelling for Slinky. He had a couple of little strokes last night and during the night (not much sleep for us).. and again this morning. Our lovely vet came to the house and it was over in minutes.

We shall miss him terribly- but we knew it would be wrong to let him suffer- when they look at you like that- you know what you have to do. I shall miss him terribly- but he had a wonderful 17 years.

staying here all Summer and look after lots of neighbours' pets when they go on hols- then Slinky will go to Tuscany with us in September, and to UK in October.

Thanks- just can't believe he survived, let alone unscathed. Reminds me, best go and ask for the bill from neighbour - as it was out of hours I wonder how much- but she did the right thing and there is no price on that.

Heart stopping! But what a relief he is fine ?

Amazingly, he is still going strong. My wonderful next door neighbour looked after him when we went to England last couple of weeks, as he was not allowed in the Châlet we had rented for the middle week to be with family. 1 week ago, she asked her teenage son and husband to look after him for 2 mins whilst she went to get food from our house next door. Next thing they heard a loud 'thump' - the son had left the door to the stairs opened ... and Slinky, blind as a bat- fell down about 10 ft straight down the well. They took him straight to the vet who checked him all over- gave him an injection of morphine and some anti-inflammatories- but didn't tell us. Anyhow- as right as rain. He could have smashed his jaw, broken is back or hind legs- anything!!! About 17 now- a RSPCA rescue.

philosophical even ;)

Well, we are phylosophical about him and all know he is on borrowed time. All has been discussed with the really nice local vet in case he takes a turn for the worse- and we have even prepared his final resting place at the bottom of the garden.

I should think that any dog-sitter would be terrified of him popping his clogs while you were away!

Oh what a lovely dog and he looks so happy! If I weren't so involved with childcare I'd come and look after him like a shot. Surely one of us dog-mad GNetters will be available - hopes so emoticon.

Wow granjura what a posh doggy its a lovely picture.

granjura Wed 11-Mar-15 15:41:32

There is a lovely old cat too- Pudding- found on the M1/M69 roundabout- 2 adult cats with 10 kittens. She is 16 but still on top form. Our other geriatic animal, Gatsby, a great big Heinz 57- will be going to our next door neighbour, as usual.

We never ever thought Slinky would still be with us and going strong, when we booked our holiday to Sicily last year- bless him.

A shame loopylou- use of my car thrown in too for the duration- and welcome to stay on for a bit to be guided and shown around.

ninathenana Wed 11-Mar-15 15:25:05

loopylou Wed 11-Mar-15 15:18:36

granjura Wed 11-Mar-15 15:04:37

I wish jJngl, this is DD2, it is her dog.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 11-Mar-15 14:56:57

Is that you, floating in the pool with him granjura?

tanith Wed 11-Mar-15 14:51:20

How nice granjura, I wish I were a dog person but cats are my thing...

granjura Wed 11-Mar-15 14:37:45

Thanks Tanith- don't know what happened to the link I posted.

If anyone who loves dogs wants a free holiday in Switzerland mid April- I am desperate for a kind and loving sitter ....

loopylou Wed 11-Mar-15 14:28:12

A star, definitely!
