Dogs/Cats - perhaps more a philosophical thing?

Haha Hilda, yes, this sounds familiar.

While staying with my DD recently, I was roused from slumber at 02:00 by her cat meowing loudly in the hall outside the room I was sleeping in. She had apparently caught a mouse and was "singing" about her catch. The dreadful racket went on for about half an hour, after which she ate the mouse, crunching sounds testified to the fact. My dog just eats what is given to her and is satisfied, thank goodness.

Most people heave a sigh of relief when their children cease to be toddlers!

They sound just like my DD's 7 year old black lab, ginny. I do rather like the toddler analogy, must tell my DD that one!

DDs 2 black labs. are 12 years old and they have been staying with us whilst DD3 and SIL have been away.

They love to play and will go on long after I have had enough.
Just one look from those big eyes can melt me.
They respond well to hugs and calm voices.
They are always ready to eat all the wrong things. (not allowed).
They follow me around the house and even sneak into the loo with me if they get a chance !

Very much like toddlers.

A vet of my acquaintance once told me that its important to remember that dogs are basically all toddlers. That made sense to me! Sounds like George is a 'working cat' who doesn't have much in the way of social skills. I know plenty of men like that!
