Dog theft

I am posting a warning regarding people who leave their dogs unattended outside of shops and in public places.

Only this morning I witness a beautiful Cocker Spaniel leashed outside of a large supermarket store and in the short time I had been standing there, he was attracting a lot of attention.

I decided to wait for the owners return to offer a friendly work of caution, yet I was met by couple who suggested 'I mind my own business'.

I have seen the heartbreak caused when a beloved pet goes missing and have helped in many searches, be it on Facebook or Twitter, hence my post.

An estimated 4,000 dogs were stolen last year, many by organised gangs, so PLEASE do not allow your dog to be one of them.

So agree- and good on you for standing by.

Our daughter's dog, a dachshund she adopted about 12 years ago and whom we had to put to sleep last week- was one of many dogs, all popular breeds, stolen for re-sale. They were all abandonned in a flat in the Midlands and finally rescued by the RSPCA and re-homed. He was the only small dog left- the others had been eaten by the starving larger dogs sad sad sad

I've just shared on FB details of a young spaniel stolen from it's garden. Yet another one.

I keep nagging my DD1 to have her one year old well bred little cocker neutered, breeding being one reason for theft. Practice dog fighting is another apparently which is horrendous, as I'd thought dog fighting was in decline. And of course, many are stolen to order. Most of these dogs have been targeted in their own gardens, or followed and snatched. I agree, these days it's not safe to leave any dog alone outside a shop.

Its just such a painful thought. I hope as many people as possible can be alerted to this awful thing. PS I don't have a dog but I like them and know how much they mean to their owners.

Also, what a gorgeous dog in the OP!
