What is it with Dog lovers?

Wilma and merlotgran So if someone came along and hung bags of dog poo on your hedge or fence you would have no objection because it is in a bag? It is not only unsightly but animals and birds tear at the bags and the poo falls to the ground, it is a health hazard. Why not take it further, would you not mind if someone dumped their rubbish by your hedge or fence, so long as it was in a bag? It is disgusting and, yes, despicable.

It does stink. We pick up our poo when out but if our dogs do have one in the garden, we have a small bin away from the house lined with a plastic bag. We check and pick up every day using dog poo bags during the week, then the day before the dustmen come, we remove the larger back and wrap it twice more before tying it up and putting in the black refuse sacks. But if they're just tossed in, in a poo bag alone, the smell can hit you when you open the lid. I had to drive home with one once when I couldn't find a dog poo bin and it's not something I'd like to do again! Also, unless your bin is lined, when you throw heavier items on top, they can burst and you've got poo loose in the bottom of your bin. Awful, then needs disinfecting and hosing out or you'll be plagued with flies. I do agree, it's not nice to chuck into a private bin. I wouldn't do it.

That's just wrong, and again, letting the side down. I don't understand why people pick up at all if all they're going to do is chuck it out of a window or hang it on a bush. Maybe they think the council can deal with the job. I hate that sort of thing. When you're following a car and they lob a fried chicken box out of the window or something. One of the things that gets to me, is when I stop to pick up my dogs poop and there's another one about 3 feet away. Frustrating, as I'm doing my bit but I can't pick up everyone else's. If you've ever trodden in it, got it on your buggy wheels, children's feet, bicycle wheels, it's not pleasant. At least there are fines now and a lot of people do do the decent thing. Going back to the bin, more difficult to police it. Just a note I suppose.

Here we have special dog bins all over the place with free bags- but we do have to pay about £50 per dog per year to pay for the service. I think it is fair, and the vast majority abide by the system. Hurrah.

breeze I wish that were the case but I have even found them in bushes on the main road (no footpath) through the village, cars can't stop without causing an obstruction so the bags have obviously been tossed out of car windows!

Does it really matter if it's not your own bin?

Maybe this will cheer you up at least! I was walking in the woods carrying 2 large dog poo bags when I looked at my mobile phone to check the time, tripped over a tree root and landed (tummy first) on top of the bags, which burst. I was covered in poop. Had to go home, put all clothing in washing machine and have a shower! Thought a tale of one of us dog owners getting some comeuppance may at least make you smile!

sunseeker, I think what sometimes happens is people pick up and hang on the tree branch to collect on their way back, because there are no poo bins on the route. Then they forget. I've done that before on long walks with no bins but I always pick them up again to put in the bin afterwards. I did hang one over a fence post once when I was dog training on a farm. I remembered with horror when I got home and rang the trainers wife and said 'Oh I'm so sorry, I left my bag of poop on your fence'. She was laughing that I'd bothered to ring but I couldn't bear it if they thought I was so inconsiderate I left poo hanging on their fence!

I live in the countryside and often find plastic bags of dog poo hanging on bushes!

I would never dream of putting my dog poo bags into someone's private rubbish bin. But as in all aspects of life, there are people who let the side down. Difficult for you, if you are renting, as you can't contact the council as you would if it were at your home. Maybe you could pop a note on the bin saying 'Please don't deposit your dog poo bags in this bin' and see what happens. It may be there are no council dog poo bins around, so rather than carry it for miles, walkers are sticking it in the nearest bin. I agree, it's not on but not sure what else you can do really. I hope it was bagged!!!!
