Poor little Minou

Early this Summer we noticed a young Siamese cross cat lurking around with a front leg hanging off. We were really upset, but he disapperared and we thought he had died. Then just before we went off to Italy - he re-appeared- the leg had fallen off and it looked awfuls and so sore. I fed him and watered him and made him a nice den in the garden shed- but he was very wild and scared and I couldn't get anywhere near him. Thank goodness my lovely neighbour agreed to look after him whilst we were away. I went to the vet and asked him what to do- and his reply was 'let nature take its course- cats can survive major injuries if they have shelter, food and water' so we did.

Lately he has been coming to the kitchen door to 'beg' first thing in morning and early evening- and I've been talking to him a lot- and recently he's got closer and closer. 3 days ago, I cooked him some fish, and, with head bent down and hand out stretched, sitting on kitchen doorstep - I put fish in my hand and waited. He made a lot of calling noises- but finally took the plunge and I felt him taking the food from my hand. Yesterday I was able to cuddle his head- and tonight - after his sachet of cat food, I did the same with fish in my hand- and he ended up on my lap and purring for the first time.

Very moving- I cried to be honest. Stump is still very red but seems to be granualting and tissue growing well around it. Hopefully he will be inside before really cold weather and snow comes- but neighbour and myself will be spending a few hours this week-end making a much warmer and waterproof den to put at the back of shed. And hopefully we will soon be able to catch it to take to the vet to see if anything can be done to help. Bless his little cotton paws.

Siamese cross, 1 year old. He managed to hide and cover his poo perfectly this morning, in the litter tray. He has a white patch on the side of his chin and a white band on back legs- otherwise Siamese- dark tale and nose, blue eyes.

Nice looking cat. Siamese? Any idea of his age?

Yes of course he won't be able to dig and hid his poos sad You'll have to do it for him grin

Lovely photo! Cats only sleep on their backs when they feel secure I believe. What a great job you've done.flowers

No loss of balance and he did cover up really well with great diligence ;) He has been asleep all afternoon- hiding behind the newspaper recycling basket on the second shelf in utility ...

The vet has done a neat job! Did he struggle to balance when scratching in the litter tray?

The only problem I have noticed with the 3 legged cat from next door is that he does loose poos any old where in the neighbourhood with no effort to cover it. I am always having to clean shoes and the lawn mower. He's also not averse to spraying up the walls in any house with an open back door! He is brain damaged so we all love and forgive him.

Bless his heart! He's looking very chilled out. I agree, he's the GN Cat now!

Love to you and kitty! So nice of you to care for him x xxx?

Tegan Wed 19-Oct-16 12:35:33

I'm relieved to see that the vet has taken most of the leg off;as whitewave says it's better to remove all of it. I know he's 'your' cat but I think he's very much the 'gransnet' cat now. Probably deserves his own blog!

Awww. What a sweetie he is (and you for taking such care of him flowers)

Charleygirl Wed 19-Oct-16 12:09:31

He has definitely found his home- he looks comfortable asleep there.

granjura Wed 19-Oct-16 11:54:21

here he is

Warning next post is of this morning and not for faint hearted.

Welcome to the cat loving world.

Sort of slept on settee - and Minou started to fuss around and lick himself at 5.30. Had his food and painkiller, but just wouldn't settle and couldn't put his collar on on my own. He finally did sleep on my lap and I snoozed with him.

Very alert - and he is desperate to go out. Neighbour just popped in for coffe to see how he is- and he has finally made friends with DH- so time for me to go and have my shower.

He is managing so well - so DH has renamed him Hoppy- he does look a bit like a kangooroo.

put bed socks on, my dressing gown and brought duvet and pillow downstairs ... nuts I tell you- he has stolen my heart the beast. And thanks for the chicken- he wolfed it down with gusto. Night night.

One of my ex neighbour's cats had 3 legs and he could leap up my 6 foot fences almost as fast as Tara. It did not appear to inhibit him too much.

With luck that little mite will get a decent night's sleep with little pain. Hopefully the vet gave him a long acting painkiller. Good that he has used his litter tray- I think that he has moved in permanently!

Wishing Minou a full and speedy recovery; now he is being so well cared for I am sure he will be fine and will soon be running around on three legs.

Sleeve idea excellent, just ignore my last posts blush!

shysal Tue 18-Oct-16 20:35:22

Just noticed it was from Hong Kong, would take too long. Same available in UK for around £3, don't know about your neck of the woods.

shysal Tue 18-Oct-16 20:30:43

I bought similar to this. Size XS, only £1.89!

Great idea Shysal. Or the sleeve from an old top, with a hole on one side for the good leg. Brilliant.

shysal Tue 18-Oct-16 20:10:36

Granjura, if Minou finds the collar distressing, you could try a baby vest with an armhole sewn up. When my Bugsie had stitches I used one and also a miniature dog's T shirt. Vets sell a garment for protecting wounds, but I think they are expensive.

My next door neighbour's cat has only 3 legs (and one eye), and manages fine. He moves like the wind up my garden steps after other cats, often catching them!

whitewave Tue 18-Oct-16 19:39:29

Oh! Although now you say I'm sure I've read or heard that complete removal is a better option, and when you think about it every animal you see with 3 legs does not have a stump but nothing up to shoulde/hip level.

granjura Tue 18-Oct-16 19:11:03

Tonight's important meeting cancelled - there is no way he'll let me go anywhere!
