Poor little Minou

Early this Summer we noticed a young Siamese cross cat lurking around with a front leg hanging off. We were really upset, but he disapperared and we thought he had died. Then just before we went off to Italy - he re-appeared- the leg had fallen off and it looked awfuls and so sore. I fed him and watered him and made him a nice den in the garden shed- but he was very wild and scared and I couldn't get anywhere near him. Thank goodness my lovely neighbour agreed to look after him whilst we were away. I went to the vet and asked him what to do- and his reply was 'let nature take its course- cats can survive major injuries if they have shelter, food and water' so we did.

Lately he has been coming to the kitchen door to 'beg' first thing in morning and early evening- and I've been talking to him a lot- and recently he's got closer and closer. 3 days ago, I cooked him some fish, and, with head bent down and hand out stretched, sitting on kitchen doorstep - I put fish in my hand and waited. He made a lot of calling noises- but finally took the plunge and I felt him taking the food from my hand. Yesterday I was able to cuddle his head- and tonight - after his sachet of cat food, I did the same with fish in my hand- and he ended up on my lap and purring for the first time.

Very moving- I cried to be honest. Stump is still very red but seems to be granualting and tissue growing well around it. Hopefully he will be inside before really cold weather and snow comes- but neighbour and myself will be spending a few hours this week-end making a much warmer and waterproof den to put at the back of shed. And hopefully we will soon be able to catch it to take to the vet to see if anything can be done to help. Bless his little cotton paws.

Poor little puss. He's been through so much but now he's had veterinary care and has you to provide excellent loving care, he'll recover well and will hopefully enjoy a long and happy life. He's a very lucky little cat to have found you.

Would be lovely if you could post a photo of Minou when he's fully recovered.

Just read the entire thread in one go, such an amazing story. So glad to hear that Minou has survived his surgery and is even able to get to the litter tray. What a lucky cat he is to have found you. ?

He sounds a wee poppet! I can imagine that size of an op is quite daunting but I'm sure the vet had his best interests at heart. Do you have to dress the wound?

Wishing Minou a speedy recovery! flowers

Well he is home, big cuddles and purring and trying to learn to balance- and wanted some food.

But what a shock- the vets decided it was best to amputate right up at the shoulder joint rather than leave him with a stump. It looks awful- but they assure me it is for the best and that he will be totally fine- and much better off this way.

Will look much better when fur grows back. If it isn't a total success and he is miserable- don't worry- however hard we will know what to do. Back to him and cuddles now. Will sleep down in the kitchen with him, otherwise I have to put the collar on and that seems to really distress him.

And as I am writing- he has gone to use the litter tray in the utility for the first time ever. Now that will truly help in next few days. Bravo Minou.

Such a lucky little puss, hope he has a long and happy life with you.

I'm so happy for Minou (and also for you too Granjura). Here's to the continuing of a happy life for him.
My Great Aunt had a 3 legged cat called Knockie because that's how he sounded. Seemed a perfectly reasonable name to me back then -but I was only 8.

Brilliant news!
I've been following your story as we rescued 2 farm kittens in France. We brought them back to London when we moved and they now beat up all the cats in the neighbourhood!
Hope Minou goes from strength to strength.

Happy news! ????

merlotgran Tue 18-Oct-16 12:26:26

That's great news. He can look forward to a lovely life now.

I am sure that he will have been given long acting pain relief so the little mite will hopefully sleep well in your kitchen tonight. He is a very lucky little boy.

Tegan Tue 18-Oct-16 12:06:17

Crikey; wasn't expecting news so soon. Wonderful to hear. And he's still got eight lives left!He must have a very strong constitution to survive all that he's been through. And highly intelligent to choose to go to you for help.

What great news! I hope the vet trauma won't cause him to run off again, but he seems to trust you.
Best wishes for a long and healthy life for little Minou.

annsixty Tue 18-Oct-16 11:10:00

What good news. I wish him a long and happy life with you.

granjura Tue 18-Oct-16 10:57:49

Vet has just phoned. All went well- they didn't have to amputate too far up to clean bone and tissue and as there was no source of infection, they neutered him at the same time (if infection present, they would have done that at later stage) - ahhhhh picking him up at 5.30pm (4.40 uk time). Thanks all for your good wishes.

annsixty Tue 18-Oct-16 10:52:09

Wishing him good luck.

granjura Tue 18-Oct-16 10:08:58

Merci - he was as good as gold when I put him in the travel basket and in the car journey (his first I imagine) about 10 miles, to our great vet in France (who is Italian- vive l'Europe) - under the knife as we speak and the vet will call as soon as he is done to tell us the outcome and prognosis. I trust him totally to do the best for little Minou.

Lillie Tue 18-Oct-16 05:37:19

On croise les doigts pour Minou aujourd'hui.

SueDonim Tue 18-Oct-16 02:47:56

Fingers crossed for a successful outcome for Minou. smile

granjura Mon 17-Oct-16 17:25:53

Thanks- good idea and I will ask them to check- but we live in rural area where microchipping for cats is very rare. Compulsory for dogs though, including official registration yearly and fee paid to local Council.

I did put notices on all the local FB sites to ask. He is very young, probably last year's kitten.

Tegan Mon 17-Oct-16 16:57:18

Will be thinking of you Minou. Will the vet check to see if he's indentichipped? Might he have travelled far from home and could have someone wondering where he is? Do you think he realised how much love is winging it's way to him at the moment; I'd like to think he does.

granjura Mon 17-Oct-16 16:49:44

Thanks all- after all this time, patience and becoming such good friends- I'd be really upset if he doesn't make it tomorrow. But the decision has to be for him, not for me. And at least he will be saved a horrendous slow demise- as was happening earlier thiy year and will hve known a bit of warmth, love and good food in his belly. See how it goes.

whitewave Mon 17-Oct-16 15:12:09

All the luck in the world to Minou. I'm sure he'll be OK

Jane10 Mon 17-Oct-16 15:04:02

Oh fingers crossed for tomorrow then. Sounds a sensible vet. Please keep us informed.
