Cushings

I had my first Westie in 1971, love the breed . So cushions can be controlled ? that's a relief to know , thank you

Still unsure about asking for the script, one person I do not want to annoy is the vet

I did not know that dogs coukd be affected , Cushings is quite common in older horses, but once controlled by medication they can be a lot better. In ponies diet and weight are important factors. I do know that some people have used herbal remedies to good effect. I love Westies, such characters, hope you can get it sorted.

Don't be worried about asking your vet for a prescription they do it all the time. Sometimes they will charge you for it but if you are happy to search on the internet you will save lots. My vet emails the prescription to me and I forward it to the supplier and it turns up a few days later.

The results of my dogs tests came back on Tuesday , I am so upset , now more tests to find the cause,

Anniel, my dog didn't have those symptoms, her appetite increased, she did drink more, no wet bed - thankfully because she sleeps with me- her coat started to thin in patches.

Yesterday I heard that one of son's 4 Jack Russells is peeing indoors and had wet her bed during the night. I was chatting to the housekeeper ( in St.Lucia) and she said this little female dog who is 9 drinks quite a lot of water. I looked all this up on google and found out she could have Cushings, diabetes or a bladder infection. Son is taking her to the Vet. It is all so worrying when you love your little dog so much.

Has anyone else have a dog with these symptoms?

Steroids are a fairly cheap medication so the expense may not be too bad. I hope you get a good prognosis.

Thank you, I wouldn't have the courage to ask the vet, they are the only practice in the town, nearest is twenty miles from here . Seems it isn't a death sentence , that's a relief as long as she doesn't suffer

My friend said yesterday that her wee dog has Cushings; he must have had it for some years I think, and he is 14. He coughs a lot, I don't know if that is a symptom of it.

I heard today on the radio that someone gets a prescription from her vet for her dog then goes to the chemist to buy it if they stock the same thing; she said it is much cheaper from the chemist.

Spoke to someone on the beach a few days ago that had a dog with Cushing's. I'm sure they said it was controlled by using steroids. When I said that must be expensive they said it wasn't too bad. Can you get the vet to give you a prescription so you could possibly buy the medication from a cheaper source?

Thank you Anya, yes I adore her, good to learn of your friends dog ,I didn't want to google it, she has picked a good time to run up a vets bill with the house move at the end of the year . Well I can manage without new flooring if I have to, Honeysuckle Rose comes first, yes a daft name, I call her Hun ? Will have results next week.

I'm sorry to hear that Annie as I know how you love your pooch. I know a friend whose elderly dog developed Cushings due to a tumour on his adrenal gland. He lived out his life quite healthily wth drugs but she found it quite expensive as he lasted another 5 years.
