Alternatives to Cat litter!

I thought about trying one of those for my Bengals at a few years ago, as they were all pretty receptive to training. I decided against it as they were all over 10 years old at the time and I (mistakenly) thought not much longer to go!
I bought a Cat Genie instead and I must admit it was a painless transition from a litter tray and it has been fabulous. It's worth a look, as although it seems expensive, you don't have to buy, carry, store and scoop all that litter. I think mine has saved me money.

Since Cinders was run over we have got 2 kittens (Sheba and Trixie) who will probably be house cats. Despite being careful with Cinders and her mum Suki we lost them both to traffic (Suki in September 2014 and Cinders last month). Previous cats lived till old age, either traffic has got worse or these last 2 where just unlucky. Anyway their replacements have been spayed, chipped and sport collars just in case they get out.

Has anyone used a cat toilet attachment and how difficult was it to train cats used to litter trays. Best type? The kittens are 5 months old, sisters.
