I would suggest Dogs Trust. They are a reputable dog rehoming group and will offer you advice and help and make sure you get the right dog for you and your lifestyle. They have branches all over the country. Please do not buy a dog from the Internet, you will not have any idea of what you are getting. Good luck.

Yes Dogs Trust or Jerry Green Foundation both are reputable organisations.
So sorry about your Yorkie, you did the right thing.

If you have decided on the breed you would like to give a home to , the rescue groups for individual breeds can be most helpful . Please not on the internet .

Find a specific breed charity ( for west highland white terriers if that's your chosen breed) and contact them. You may have to wait a little while to be assessed and matched with the right dog for you. The charity I'm involved with places all dogs for re-homing into foster homes. The minimum stay is a couple of weeks so an assessment of the dog can be made. Dogs with behavioural issues will be longer in their foster home with a view to helping the dog move on to its forever home successfully. Dogs are matched to homes that best meet their needs. Good luck but please don't get a dog from the internet.

Thank you to all. I have been on re-homing sites suggested. Unfortunately, small breeds are extremely popular. So, I have had to contact KC breeder. Some people seem to gather these small breeds from the Rescues, and then advertise having to re-home because of allergies/fighting with other family dogs/frightening children,etc. These are the ones it appears are used in auctions because of the popularity of small breeds with the elderly or those with young families. Also, the ads that are written in very poor English language make me suspicious anyway. But the list goes on regarding dodgy internet sellers/rescues. Even one advertising rescue dogs from Spain. Having written all this, such dogs do not stay long on these internet ads. Someone is buying them, but it won't be me. Very sad all around when you think.

The Cinnamon Trust is another reputable organisation. I worked in Care in the Community, in another life, and I remember helping an elderly client who couldn't look after their much loved pooch anymore to contact this trust with a view to rehoming. They might well be worth having a chat to.
So sorry about your Yorkie, it's so hard when they have to go, but good luck in finding another fur baby!

Sorry about your yorkie, CelticRose - we had to make the same decision on our vet's advice recently, about our 15 yr old border collie.
Not looking for another dog, but still interested in the subject you bring up.

Interesting OP. I've never heard of these auctions. Do you offer money for the dog, with all good intentions, when you answer the advert?

You need to be so careful these days.

I've been warned about these dog for sale posts on facebook and someone told me that dog fighting groups look out for such dogs . Always better to get a dog through an organisation that will 'vet' you first.
