My poor fur baby

She's just come back to us after 3 weeks radio iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism. She's hopefully cured but on the first day there she lost a tooth when they were trying to sedate her for the treatment - she should have had a dental prior to it really but as she's impossible to handle and had already had 3 sedations for blood tests I didn't want to stress her out any more than necessary. This morning she has broken one of her bottom canines - I'm not sure how but think she's misjudged the cat flap as she's run through it and banged her mouth on it. Blood everywhere and the tooth is now hanging out of her mouth shock. I've spoken to the vets and they've advised to see how she is in the morning as she'd already eaten today so couldn't be sedated. She's stopped bleeding thank goodness but must be in such pain - she looks dreadful but the vet didn't want to give her pain killers as her kidney levels are slightly raised. I feel so sorry for her not to mention guilty about not having her teeth seen to before we started down this road sad

I’m afraid all you can do is give her lots of cuddles and hugs.
Yep, cuddles and hugs.
Hope she gets well really soon.

The poor soul - I do hope she'll be feeling better tomorrow and make a good recovery, teeth and all.

I am so sorry, hope the vet can heal her quickly x

Unfortunately it all got worse before it got better! By mid afternoon I was very concerned about her - she was obviously in a lot of pain, still bleeding a little and the tooth was still hanging out of her mouth. I rang the vet again and they agreed to see her and sedate her to see what the damage was - how I got her into the carrier is another story but one hand is lacerated so badly by her claws it's all swollen up! So thankful I took her though as it turned out she'd broken her jaw! I have no idea how and now think perhaps she ran into the step in the passage which is tiled - the vet said her teeth and bone density is so bad it wouldn't have taken much of a knock. She had surgery last night and had her jaw wired then has to go back in a month to have the wire removed and a dental procedure done to try and repair what they can. She was very spaced out on the meds all night but obviously very hungry - eating was difficult at first as she'd had a nerve block in (similar to us being frozen at the dentist) but she then ate a whole packet of food during the night! She's currently tucking into her lunch so hoping she manages without further problems until they do the dental on her!

She’s going to need lots of cuddles and fussing Willow which I’m sure you’ll give her. It’s hard when we can’t explain to them what’s happening and that things will get better.

If only I could cuddle her OldMeg - she was feral and although we've had her 6 years and she's devoted to me she's definitely not a lap cat and won't even be stroked apart from when she's being fed. She has to be sedated for any vet procedure. Such a shame as she's so beautiful and looks like she should be cuddled!

Oh she looks beautiful! Well done on taking in a feral which I know are hard to "deal" with! We had one that came as far as our back door for food but ran a mile as soon as we tried to approach it. Fed for years, wormed, all sorts of conditioning pills and potions put in its food, a comfy bed in the shed but we could never get close - maybe Fleacat objected to the name we gave him! Suddenly just disappeared and although we searched we never did see him again. We also had 2 feral kittens from "up the stables" who were very independent despite being with us for years, and I have the scars on my hands to prove it!. Hope yours feels completely better soon. She's a very lucky cat.

How is your beautiful fur baby Willow and is your hand healing ?

Florence64 Fri 02-Mar-18 15:42:06

She is beautiful and I hope she is much better very soon. I wonder if she slipped on some ice as she came throught the catflap? Maybe put a mat down for her outside if you haven't already. Well done for looking after her so well.
