Time to say goodbye, goodnight to Pudding

Pudding was found in a cardboardbox, with another cat and 10 kittens, by the M1/M69 jct. almost dead. Thank goodness the lady who saw the box move, insisted her husband drove all the way back to Lutterworth and up again, when he said he could not stop.

They were taken to Cat rescue, who found a foster family, then host families for the kittens- but no-one wanted the mums. And so they ended up with us - Pudding was named so as she was a big girl, with a tummy that flopped on the ground. She moved with us in 2009, and has been very happy here- but she is now VERY thin, with sunken eyes- and recently has been unable to jump on the bed, or missed.. and the time has come. We hoped she would jsut forget to wake up one day... So the vet will come home some time this week- in the meantime, lots of cuddles and softly cooked chicken and her favourite treats.

We adopted her in .... 1995 and the vet then sais she was about 4. Our vet here says he has never seen a cat over the age of 23. Bless her white socks.

Ah jura2 what a wonderful life you gave PudPud and a lovely peaceful end to it - so very sorry you had to say goodbye but we know when the time has come and it's the kindest last gift we can give them.

My oldest cat was also 23 when she died - she was the daughter of our first cat and was delivered by me on our bed in 1984 - she outlived her mum and also her own son who she birthed under the sink in the kitchen. She spent her final years happily sleeping in her basket until a stroke one dreadful morning forced me to take her to the vets and let her go.

Paddyann so sorry to hear your sad news - we have lost several pets over the years but only one, a dog, to a car accident - it's a very traumatic experience so know how much it hurts flowers

oh Paddyann- so sorry to hear. We have been so lucky that none of our cats has ever had a road or other accident- what a horrible thing for you to go through. One of our young British friend here lost her young cat last year, drowned in a pond in the garden - the whole family found it so traumatic and upsetting. I am very sorry x

PudPud had lived such an amazingly long and happy life - so it felt good to give here a good rest and sleep without all the pain.

Good night Pudding - what a great age she achieved. Rescued and given love and care but repaid that love ten-fold. flowers

paddyann - my sympathy, it is such a shock when this happens.

I really feel for you,our 2 year old cat was killed by a car on Friday and we are devastated. They really are a huge part of your life and I'm sure that like us you'll have amazing memories of your Pudding. Its strange how a small cat who is mainly silent can fill a home with love .You'll miss her but I'm sure you 'd rather have had that time with her even when you're grieving her loss .xx

So, a few days later- Minou 3 legs and Emma are becoming best friends and inseparable. Every cloud ...

You had a cat called Pudding, auntieflo - wow. I also felt she was the only one...x

Sleep tight, Pudding. If only all of us, with four legs or two, could go so peacefully, purring in the arms of someone who loves us.

Dear, dear Pudding. Sleep tight Dear, much loved Puss whose story has made me cry and remember our own beloved Purr-sons that we have absolutely adored and lost.

GillT57 Sat 21-Jul-18 17:26:59

oh Jura what a sad, but lovely story. Your beloved cat died, purring in your arms, what a lucky cat and what lucky people you were to have her in your life for such a long time.

Auntieflo Sat 21-Jul-18 16:20:22

Jura2 this brought back memories of our own sweet Pudding. I had never heard of another so called. Sleep sweetly dear puss.

Run free sweet Pudding ??

jura2 Sat 21-Jul-18 10:26:08

Thank you for your lovely comments. Spent the afternoon with her, on my bed- then the French vet came to our house at 4 and she went to sleep in my arms ... purring!

Best thing was not to put her through the stress of a long journey to the vet - it was only the 3rd time she had met a vet in her long life. When at the Cat Refuge, for her passport when we moved, and yesterday. Moggies are the best- and live so much longer than bred cats. Sleep tight our PudPud.

And bye from me too - life is too short indeed.

So sad for you but how lovely you have had a long time with her and she will go to sleep being held by the person who has given her so much love. Grief is the pain we pay for love I think that applies just as much to a beloved cat as to a beloved human. I hope we get to keep out cats as long

Fennel Wed 18-Jul-18 17:00:55

It's hard to accept that they only have a short life, compared with ours. Because they're like our closest friends.
But well done Pudding, and you, Jura.

Katek Wed 18-Jul-18 15:57:15

A life well lived, sleep well Pudding. flowers

Jura2 - all my sympathy - it is dreadful getting to that stage, but you are doing the right thing, you know.

Sparklefizz Tue 17-Jul-18 08:32:58

Jura2 I feel for you ..... poor Pudding, poor you. We love our pets so much. You've given Pudding a loving and happy life and you will never forget her, but maybe at some future time you will feel able to give that love and security to another little cat that needs rescuing. But all that is in the future. flowers for you and a big cuddle for Pudding.

seacliff Mon 16-Jul-18 22:13:25

Lucky Pudding to have you as a family, she has had a wonderful stress free life since you took her in. And a peaceful pain free end. No cat could ask for more. I feel for you, it's a hard time. flowers to you and dear Pudding.

MrsJamJam Mon 16-Jul-18 18:19:19

Well done for choosing to get the vet to come to Pudding's home. It may cost more but it is so much kinder for them to slip away cuddled up on your lap in their own familiar surroundings. And you can weep as much as you like afterwards. You have given her a wonderful life.flowers

Purpledaffodil Mon 16-Jul-18 18:15:51

Feel for you. Our rescued cat from Dubai died of liver cancer over two years ago. DH still mourns her and refuses to have another cat. I agree about not taking her to the vet if it can be avoided. flowers

jura2 Mon 16-Jul-18 16:49:48

thinking of it, she has never been to a vet since we adopted her, only the once to do her EU passport to bring her here.
So home is where we will say goodbye.

Jane10 Mon 16-Jul-18 16:48:56
