As I was going up to bed last night following my feline lady by torchlight (well phone light - husband had gone to bed so didn't want to put the light on) it made me smile watching her plodding up the stairs and wondering yet again what goes through her little head. Our bedtime ritual is always the same. Two bowls of food or biscuits (depending on the recipient) one left on the side in the utility room for scaredy cat who sneaks in when the coast is clear and spends his night on the sofa before scarpering when he hears 'her who must be feared' coming down the stairs! The other is for said lady who sits by the living room door at precisely 10pm waiting for her human to prepare for bed. If the door is open she sits half way up the stairs and waits for me to appear. If she's feeling energetic she races ahead of me straight into the bathroom where she sits expectantly waiting for the bowl to be laid before her. If it's hot she plods slowly up the stairs like the old woman behind her! Once supper is eaten she uses her tray then has one of two routines - winter or cold weather it's straight on the bed to snuggle on the duvet - in this heat she flops out on the floor by the bathroom door to catch the draught from the open window. This is the second cat I've had who relishes the bedtime routine - it was always a race with him who could get to the bed first - him or me. He would then lay his head or his paw on my hand and go to sleep - I miss that - the lady is not a cuddly cat by any means but needs to be near me - just no touching allowed!
