A worrying weekend ahead.

Baz has a tumour. It's suddenly appeared from his abdomen. Lucky to get vet appt at once but end result is op on Monday. She wanted him to be assessed by a cardiologist and /or other tests but we decided that the whole situation was so incredibly stressful for him that we'd rather the vet just got on with it. No alternative anyway. It's going to be a worrying weekend. He's so happy to be home that I'm glad he's to have the least intrusive treatment. We've accepted the gamble re his heart and an anaesthetic.

What a relief! I was almost afraid to come to this thread tonight, so pleased that Baz came through the op alright, fingers crossed now for good test results.

So pleased to hear you have him home Jane. He will settle after a good nights sleep I am sure. Love to Baz - you are doing well.

We're not due back at the vets till Thursday. I just hope he manages to keep the wound clean without irritating it by licking. He's still very agitated and confused poor thing.

Baz. ..... oops

ffinnochio Mon 31-Dec-18 15:25:46

Good to hear Bas has come through ok Jane10. Get those antibiotics!

Anja Mon 31-Dec-18 15:21:37

Yes, I have to pay but where in the NHS can you ring at 8.30pm get an appointment within the hour with a doctor of your choice, have a blood test and the results phoned through to you within 6 hours? That’s my experience today re my dog.

Hope Baz feels better soon Jane ??

He's home and not the happiest bunny (not surprising as he's a cat). Pretty wobbly and confused. Due back on Thursday at 9am. I was a bit surprised that he wasn't given any antibiotics. Maybe another big bill for those?!
We were quite happy to pay whatever it would cost but were quite taken aback at the commercially minded vet's attitude. I suppose it makes me grateful for the nhs. Imagine having to agree and pay in advance for any treatment.

Just seen this Jane10, what a relief to read he’s through the op. I’m a dog person but those American Coon cats are wonderful, a friend had one, full of character.
Hope Baz recovers x

Well he made it through the op! We're collecting him at 2.30. The lump will be sent for histology to see what it was. Fingers tightly crossed.
We had been braced I case his heart gave out under anaesthetic so phew phew phew!

I keep looking at him and wondering if this time next week he won't be there. I found DD saying a special goodbye to him yesterday. I've scared myself silly reading about heart disease in Maine Coons. I know! But I can't help it. At least it confirms that investigations into heart problems in cats is aversive and unpleasant and that treatment can also be stressful for cats and ultimately unsuccessful. I'm glad DH is in complete agreement with me that we'll not be going down that road. He's had a happy relaxed life so far. Just hoping it can stay that way. Poor old boy.
