Adopting from Romania

I read your post with great interest, and I'm so glad that you are happy with your adoptees. Your family. Personally l cannot imagine life without animals...... so empty. Some say that animals are a tie...as far as I'm concerned....bring it on. There is nothing quite like the love of animals when you're feeling a little low.

I don't know if anyone else saw this, but apparently DogsTrust bought a whole load of toys for their guests for Christmas.
The toys were all set out, lined up, and then one by one the doggie guests were let into the room.
With much delight the dogs chose their toys - sampling this one - or that one - amid much skidding, toys squeeking, happy barking and general delight. The dogs quickly learned which toys squeeked, and which ran along the floor - waiting to be pounced on, chased, chosen and happily carried off ! Bliss.

How delightful that Father Christmas remembered All of the animals at Dogs Trust...tho' personally, l believe the reindeer reminded him about Dogs Trust...and if Father Christmas had forgotten, the reindeer would have made him walk home. Quite right too! Never, ever, underestimate the reindeer...

Just an update on the pup that came from Romania. Settled in beautifully - loving life - loving other dogs - loving people, really great with children. I feel a bit ashamed about the fact I didn't think it was a good idea.

When I look at her running about chasing balls, bringing them back, worshipping her 'brother' I just stand and wonder about how different her life would have been if my daughter hadn't gone ahead and arranged it all.

There is only one small problem which am not sure if anyone with smaller dogs might be able to help with. She looks like she has Jack Russell in her (as well as others - a proper Heinz 57) She just doesn't seem to 'get' toilet training! Can spend ages outdoors with her and she comes in and pees! I was looking after her this weekend and I took her for long walks, kept putting her out but still she weed in the kitchen!

She is now I think 8 months and our other dog only took about 3 weeks to 'get it'. Same with others we have had but all much bigger breeds.

Is this something to worry about? Can smaller dogs only hold it in so long? How do you get the message across?

Here in Portugal, we have the same problem as Romania, Spain etc etc. Stray dogs and cats are mainly due to the fact that people will not castrate their animals. I believe there are charities that take the animals from here back to the UK.

My motto is charity begins at home. I have a couple of strays which I took in from here and also one from the UK that I bought over with me. I wouldn’t go abroad for an animal there is just as many in the UK requiring a home.
