I have this problem in my garden .
My neighbour is a lovely lady ,but has four naughty pussies .
I plant out more regularly and they literally queue up when they see me digging .
I sprinkle finely cut citrus peel over the soil .
And protect my newly planted plants with crossed kebab sticks otherwise they are uprooted immediately .
It works for me .

BlueBelle, I understand you wouldn't want to get a dog just to deter Cats are a law unto themselves. That’s why I have dogs - which involves picking up after them.
It sounds like a lot of cats. Hope your gardening gloves help

Oh. I didn't know that. Thank you. I got the advice from Google. I only used it the once because as soon as it rained, I couldn't stand the smell.

Iam64 it’s not a big fuss when you put your hands in it when weeding it doesn’t happen now and then it can happen everyday and I don’t have a dog and I m not buying one just to get rid of cats

Remember whatever you sprinkle, as soon as it rains your whole garden is going to smell of it, be that chilli, garlic, etc.

I sprinkled cayenne pepper to deter squirrels and my garden stank.

Sprinkle chilli flakes. Worked a treat for me.

I’m not a cat person but honestly, what a fuss.
We occasionally have a big cat who sits on the high fence plotting to murder a bird. I let the dogs out, cat runs a mile.

Have you tried citrus peel? When neighbours got a cat it seemed to think my garden was the local public loo! Someone told me they hate citrus peel so, as I eat a lot of citrus fruit, I put the peel down nearly every day and it worked!

We tried all of the above and eventually bought a noise deterrent thing that had a solar panel. It was on a spike that you stick in the ground. The only thing that worked - mostly.

I don't get why/ when this became such a problem I had cats for years and they always buried their poop! As kittens they used a litter tray which I would move into the garden & gradually add soil to the litter mix. Eventually removed the tray and they continued to use that spot!

Cats do not bury their waste, this is a myth. Cat poo is disgusting and dangerous, just as dangerous as dog poo for causing blindness etc. If you don't believe me Google it. It also stinks to high heaven as the faeces is all about attracting other cats. That's why you will end up with piles of it all around your garden. We tried every type of granule under the sun, none of them worked. The only thing that has worked is the battery operated cat/animal box scarer that emits a noise and scares them away. It's a very humane way and does not harm the animal. The only other thing is that whenever you see one you need to make it unwelcome. A water pistol or going out and shooing it does the trick. I don't advocate getting your own cat, that doesn't work. My next door neighbour has a cat and the cats still go into her garden. Apart from that Im not interested in cleaning up yet more cat s**t. Make sure you wear gloves when anywhere near this stuff. The cat boxes can be bought online. For all the selfish people on here saying get over it, it gets very wearing finding constant piles of s* in your garden to clean up. However, many pet owners are selfish.

I got some canes which I cut in 18 inch lengths. I pushed these into any bare soil, at an angle of 45 degrees. All laid in different directions. This meant the cat couldn't squat down to poo as there wasn't any room for them. It worked a treat on my back garden. They now use the front garden! But I don't mind about this as it will very soon be dug up to be landscaped.

Just moved into this house and picked up about 50 poos in the first week! Bought some reflecting cats, said to scare off pooing cats and the cats just pooed right next to them! It's my front garden which has grey slat shingles, so the cats can't cover their poos. We had loads of cats coming into our back garden, but my little dog got rid of those. Every time we saw a cat in the back garden we would shout Cat and my little dog would dash out, barking like mad, seems to have done the trick, can't do this for front garden cos of the road.

All animals poo outside. That's what they do; it's called nature. Get over it, and concern yourself with the real problem which is pollution caused by humans.

I altered my front garden recently for easy maintenance , so it is now gravelled and lined like a Japanese zen garden with rocks and plants. After a while cats and foxes found it very inviting. In fact for some obscure reason the foxes poo-d on the rocks.

I got some granule stuff from Amazon and it worked a treat. Nothing since.

Saying that I think that we bring* these animals into our world and expect them to abide by our rules which is ridiculous if you think about it. Ground is ground to them they have no concept of anything else except territory.

Cats mess is no more disgusting than dogs fouling paths, parks and beaches. We have something pooing in our garden and its definitely not a cat so I believe it could be foxes. Try buying Lion dung available online - it's supposed to be very effective.

I can vouch for the fact that not all cats bury their poo.
When planting bulbs a couple weeks ago there were 3 lots laying on the soil . Yeuk !!!
I don’t dislike cars but I do wish we could prevent them using our garden but nothing seems to deter them.

I think cats these days are lazy.
They used to wait until my dad had planted seeds in his freshly raked soil and then dig it all up.

Nowadays they just go anywhere, without digging a hole first.

Love love love cats so can't really get involved in this conversation. Don't care if they poo/wee in my garden. Just love their fluffy beautiful faces lol
