World Cup predictions please....

So - rules are there are no rules, no insider footballer info needed - it's just who you think will win, lose or draw - like Paul the octopus in the last World Cup - this is using the brilliance of gransnetters (and CariGransnet's goldfish - named Goldie, of course) to predict who will win the World Cup.

Every morning we post the fixtures for that day for you to post your predictions.

You'll get a point for each correct prediction (win, lose or draw) and for those with a competitive streak, there will be a bonus points option suggested for the day, so you 'fancy' up your entry <ooh>

Every morning we will update our leaderboard, however you're more than welcome to join in at whatever stage. Obviously there's less chance of winning if you join in half-way, unless you're a pro and take part in the bonus rounds!

There will be a mystery prize for the gransnetters with the most points at the end of the World Cup (13 July).

Let the games commence! Post below if you'll be taking part from Thursday.

I'm rubbish at this predicting! Thank you Portugal for giving me a ray of hope. (All yesterday's other guesses were wrong.) How lovely to have a day off. I am out this afternoon eating cupcake with friends from the choir.

Maggiemaybe Sat 28-Jun-14 12:13:01

I've had internet connection problems today (my OH has just had to witness an hour of wild, childish computer rage when I couldn't get on to Gransnet or my usual shopping fixes angry), so I'll register my predictions now while I can.

KatGransnet (GNHQ) Sat 28-Jun-14 12:50:30

Afternoon all!

Today's games are...

Brazil v Chile 5pm BBC1
Colombia v Uruguay 9pm ITV

And for your bonus points, add a review for something relating to a country per fixture on our Reviews section: www.gransnet.com/reviews

So it can be a book, days out, holidays... and perhaps a toy made from that country if you're struggling!

When you submit the review, you won't be able to see it straight away as it gets sent to us at GNHQ first. Just tell us on this thread where you've submitted the review and we'll check.

kittylester Sat 28-Jun-14 13:24:42

Brazil and Colombia please.

I doubt I'll be able to do reviews as we are staying at DD2's house and her phone signal is c**p and I have no idea how to swit h the computer on! I can't get a WiFi signal either! angry

rubysong Sat 28-Jun-14 13:25:07

Brazil and Colombia to win.

Not sure about the reviews, a bit busy today getting ready for a BBQ tomorrow.

Pittcity Sat 28-Jun-14 13:28:12

Have submitted a review of Personalised Year of Birth Wine (Chilean Merlot - my favourite wine) to Gifts for Men.

Charleygirl Sat 28-Jun-14 14:27:39

Domestic abuse incidents in Britain have increased by one third since the world cup started. I know I don't like football, but even I would not have expected this. How very sad.

Bu it is quite an aggressive game - all that kicking! - and brings out tribal instincts.

kittylester Sun 29-Jun-14 09:38:37

It is sad Mishap isn't it! I think the police expect it now and it also happens with cup finals etc!

JulieGransnet (GNHQ) Sun 29-Jun-14 12:06:05

Morning (well, not quite morning).

There fixtures today are;

Netherlands v Mexico 17:00 (5pm for people who like to see the time this way)

Costa Rica v Greece 21:00 (9pm)

And for your bonus points, add a review for something relating to a country per fixture on our reviews section here: www.gransnet.com/reviews

Be creative, it can be anything from that country. As KatGransnet has said above, "it can be a book, days out, holidays... and perhaps a toy made from that country if you're struggling!"

When you submit the review, you won't be able to see it straight away as it gets sent to us at GNHQ first. Just tell us on this thread where you've submitted the review and we'll check.

Happy football watching.

Charleygirl Sun 29-Jun-14 12:22:52

Netherlands and Costa Rica to win today.

Happy2Be Sun 29-Jun-14 13:23:39

Netherlands and Greece to win.

I have reviewed Jun restaurant in Amsterdam and the Hermes Hotel in Crete

Pittcity Sun 29-Jun-14 13:51:56

Netherlands and Costa Rica to win.

Easier to write reviews for this one as I have actually eaten here and read this book...

I have added a review on Amigos Mexican Restaurant, Colchester in Eating Out and one on The Island by Victoria Hislop, which is set in a Greek leper colony in Adult Books.

kittylester Sun 29-Jun-14 16:39:17

Netherlands and Costa Rica to win for me too please.

I have done a review of the Keukenhof Bulbfields and the Mexican restaurant in Loughborough. [thickemoticon]

Well I've had a busy weekend!!

If I get chance I will do a review of something Greek - which might have been The Island if Pittcity hadn't beaten me to it!!

Maggiemaybe Sun 29-Jun-14 16:40:19

Good afternoon. Hope you've all had a little bit of {sunshine] to enjoy today.

I've reviewed the Cielo Blanco Mexican restaurant in the Trinity Centre and The Living Room cocktail lounge in Greek Street, both Leeds. Not too creative, I'm afraid - I'm starting to think that too much of my life revolves round eating and drinking!

And as for the football I'll take a punt on Mexico and Costa Rica to win today, please.

kittylester Sun 29-Jun-14 16:47:35

I have reviewed the Babylonia Restaurant in Leicester which is Greek - phew!!

rubysong Sun 29-Jun-14 23:17:02

Sorry, no chance to predict today as I was running around like a fly with a blue derrière, doing a barbecue for the members of DH's rock band (don't laugh) and their families. There were only 15 people but they ate like gannets, I hardly got anything, not even nibbles, well one nut but not a single Pringle! I did get some pudding and now they've all gone I have finished off a last hot dog.
Hopper to get back to the predicting next time.

Today's fixtures:

France v Nigeria 5pm BBC1
Germany v Algeria 9pm ITV

And for your bonus points, let us know what you think about extending flexible working for all employees on this thread: www.gransnet.com/forums/in_the_news/1208425-Nick-Clegg-event-on-family-friendly-working-TODAY And how you think our childcare system fares compared to one of the countries playing today's games.

Maggiemaybe Mon 30-Jun-14 12:40:36

Oh dear, I'm losing touch with the leaderboard leader! I'll go for the obvious today please - France and Germany. I'll get my political hat on later!

Pittcity Mon 30-Jun-14 12:45:19

France and Germany to win.

I have posted on the thread, but have no real idea of our childcare system any more let alone that of other countries. I should think that France and Germany have good systems in place for those who can afford it and that Nigeria and Algeria conform to my ideal of the mother running the home and caring for the children with the support of the extended family and the father working to pay the bills!!

Charleygirl Mon 30-Jun-14 12:56:48

France and Germany to win

rubysong Mon 30-Jun-14 13:41:57
