I've just got back from me hols and am now aiming for last place. Got a bit upset about Englands poor show and am disappointed that Holland won under such controversial circumstances so am now supporting France [for Thierry [heart emoticom]].

The only thing I know about childcare in any of the countries listed (I'm wayyyy past child care worries myself) is what my 'extra' daughter tells me about her Nigerian MiL's attitude which is to give the squalling child to one of the maids and go out! Extra daughter is horrified by this especially as her DH wants to take the children to see his mother without his wife.

I have been to 3 of the countries but not Argentina...

Adelboden, Switzerland is the home of "Our Chalet", a hostel in the Swiss Alps belonging to the Guide (now jointly with the Scouts) association. It has been an adventure holiday base for Guides since 1932. I have never holidayed there but did have a family holiday in Adelboden when I was a child - my first encounter with "continental quilts"!!

Bruges, Belgium is one of my favourite places for a short break. The city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site, but I love it for the Moules Frites and, of course, the chocolate.

Belgians drink an average of around 80 litres of beer per person per year and Americans around the same. I find this interesting as Belgium produces so many interesting varieties of beer and the Americans I’ve met think you’re a hardened drinker if you order a second half.

The figure is 43 litres for Argentina and 58 for Switzerland.

I think I'll go for Argentina to win and the USA.

It was interesting to hear last night that the Muslim players were being allowed to eat and drink in the daytime [with it being Ramadan at the moment]. Visions of them all running off the pitch for a Mars Bar the minute the sun goes down .I wonder if the names of the players will be added to the 'approved list' if the Swiss win the Cup?

Have a rest and some

Well, I still haven't seen a good game. The Belgium/USA game was supposed to be brilliant for the last half hour [I saw bits of it] but the continuing theme of the tournament is a 'watching paint dry' game for 90 minutes and then good attacking football in extra time; therefore will just turn on as the game is supposed to be ending. The commentators keep going on about how amazing the football has been and I have to admit to being clueless about football, but I do know when I'm bored. kitty; your family are well up on football..have they found the games to be of a high level?

Simply put - no! Tegan but they are excited about psycho coming back to Forest!

They surely can't afford Suarez can they ....

I enjoyed the extra time of the Belgium/US game, Tegan, which is the only part I saw (we'd been out and put the TV on to find it just starting). The Americans tried so hard and were so keen to win, and I really wanted them to (and not just because my Gransnet competition point was riding on them!). I'm not a huge football fan, but this took me back to watching my DS play in his junior team back in the day, with all that enthusiasm and energy. I've caught bits of other games in the tournament and been bored.

Ah; Stuart Pearce! [the S.O. is a Forest fan]. Maggie; if only I knew which games to just watch after they'd 'finished' . It was good to see the USA team with dreadlocks and suchlike.

I'm off out to my niece's wedding in a minute so thought I'd do my predictions now and possibly do the challenge later - make it easy please as I could be tired and emotional by then!!
