So - rules are there are no rules, no insider footballer info needed - it's just who you think will win, lose or draw - like Paul the octopus in the last World Cup - this is using the brilliance of gransnetters (and CariGransnet's goldfish - named Goldie, of course) to predict who will win the World Cup.

Every morning we post the fixtures for that day for you to post your predictions.

You'll get a point for each correct prediction (win, lose or draw) and for those with a competitive streak, there will be a bonus points option suggested for the day, so you 'fancy' up your entry <ooh>

Every morning we will update our leaderboard, however you're more than welcome to join in at whatever stage. Obviously there's less chance of winning if you join in half-way, unless you're a pro and take part in the bonus rounds!

There will be a mystery prize for the gransnetters with the most points at the end of the World Cup (13 July).

Let the games commence! Post below if you'll be taking part from Thursday.

I got an excellent reply from Jeremy Paxman on the WW1 thread and only added a question because of this thread smile

kittylester Mon 07-Jul-14 16:48:20

Me too! grin

Maggiemaybe Mon 07-Jul-14 18:52:59

And me! And I've won one of the signed books on offer on that thread! smile

Charleygirl Tue 08-Jul-14 11:04:52

I have no idea if it an early or later match today. In case I am not around later, my prediction is that Germany will win.

rubysong Tue 08-Jul-14 11:27:52

I'm predicting Brazil today (even without their star player).

kittylester Tue 08-Jul-14 11:44:35

I'm going with Brazil today too!

KatGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 08-Jul-14 12:56:56

Apols - late to the party today...

Today's match is Brazil v Germany 9pm BBC1 and ITV (why both channels?!)

For your bonus points, add a recipe for a dish relating to one of the two countries playing tonight.

Here's a link to our recipe section: www.gransnet.com/recipes

Let us know on this thread when you've posted a recipe, or even better, post a link to it smile

rubysong Tue 08-Jul-14 13:44:00

I have posted a Brazilian recipe for Beijinho de Coco (little coconut kisses). It is under the 'snacks' heading.
Prediction (Brazil) posted earlier.

Pittcity Tue 08-Jul-14 15:00:34

I predict Germany to win, but will not stay up to find out!!

Have posted a recipe for hot German Potato Salad, ideal for barbeques.

Charleygirl Tue 08-Jul-14 16:44:45

I have posted Chicken Schnitzel. Germany to win.

The game appears to be on BBC1 this evening, 9pm kick off if anybody is interested.

Maggiemaybe Tue 08-Jul-14 18:30:24

Here's my recipe - Rote Gruetze berry pudding

And seeing as I've borrowed one of their recipes, I'll say Germany to win. football I think it might go to penalties and they seem to have them off to a fine art.

kittylester Tue 08-Jul-14 18:45:34

Here's my recipe but I don't know how to do the other sort of link.

Germany to win

Tegan Tue 08-Jul-14 21:40:16

NO CHANCE; [I'm joking...I feel really sorry for Brazil at the moment sad]...

Maggiemaybe Tue 08-Jul-14 22:55:23

Me too, Tegan. It was so sad to see those little boys in tears. Though I am told by him who knows that the Brazilian team played very badly. sad

Charleygirl Tue 08-Jul-14 23:24:24

Germany were fabulous- did not put a foot wrong.

Tegan Tue 08-Jul-14 23:34:46

I thought they could have toned down their euphoria at the end a bit though, with so many Brazilians so upset. As for the pundits saying how bad Brazil played [I don't mean 'him who knows' Maggie, but the BBC lot]; didn't we get beat by the German team at the last World Cup rather badly [or rather well if you supported Germany]? I can't remember the score but I recall watching it at my daughters [my second grandson had just been born] and feeling very humiliated. I bet Rio Ferdinand was playing that day as well [just going to do a bit of googling].

Tegan Tue 08-Jul-14 23:37:40

It was 4:1; Ferdinand didn't play [so I owe him an apology].

kittylester Wed 09-Jul-14 06:02:44

Oops! sad

Maggiemaybe Wed 09-Jul-14 07:44:17

Yes, there are worse things than going out early! I dread to think what the Germans would have done to our team if we'd managed to struggle through to the later stages! blush football

Pittcity Wed 09-Jul-14 08:12:11

smile

kittylester Wed 09-Jul-14 08:18:28
