KatGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 21-Oct-13 10:46:05

This thread is for the 100 gransnetters who have been chosen to trial No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum.

Here’s what Boots had to say, “No7 is the UK’s leading skincare brand. NEW No7 Restore& Renew Day & Night Serum is specifically formulated for more mature skin and actively targets the five key signs of ageing: wrinkles, lack of firmness, uneven pigmentation, fragility and dull skin. In clinical trials, after four weeks of use, both light-reflecting characteristics and levels of natural moisture return to similar levels of younger skin. New Restore & Renew Day & Night Serum is our fourth clinically proven serum meaning that we have a clinically proven serum for every stage of a woman’s life. We have had great results from our clinical trial and user testing, but we’d love to hear what gransnetters think about the product as well.”

We’d like you to use the product each day and night for at least four weeks, but preferably for the full eight weeks. Feel free to post your feedback on this thread as often as you like while using the serums.

When you're ready please answer the following questions:

Q1: What were your overall impressions of No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum?

Q2. After using Restore & Renew Day & Night serum for four weeks, how significantly has your skin changed in the following areas? If so please give details.
· Lines and wrinkles
· Firmness
· Pigmentation
· Fragility
· Skin’s radiance

Q3. The RRP for No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum is £24.95, do you think you'd be likely to buy the product again or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the serums to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Everyone who adds their feedback to this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a No7 skincare bundle worth over £100.

Please note, Boots may use any comments posted on this thread in marketing, editorial and/or promotional material so please only post if you are happy with this.

Thanks and good luck,

GNHQ

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to try these products.
I was away on holiday when they arrived so I have only been using them for three weeks, however, here are my impressions so far -

1. Overall impressions - Nicely packaged, day/night creams easily distinguished, pleasant perfume - not too strong, easy to apply but not sure how much is needed, skin feels soft and smooth after application.

2. I can honestly say that after three weeks I can not really see any difference in my skin. I am looking especially for a reduction in wrinkles around my mouth area and under eyes, plus a more even skin tone. I will certainly stick with the products and hope that after the eight weeks (if it lasts that long!) I will be convinced that miracles really can happen!.

3. I will not be buying it again unless I can see a noticeable difference in my skin. Even then, I would probably think about trying to find a cheaper option!

4. I would not recommend to a friend at the moment but I realise that I need to try it for a longer period of time.

I will report back again after using it for eight weeks - or when it has run out.

Now been using the serums for 4 weeks, had a nasty cold for first three so wasn't sure what was happenning with my skin as it looked awful anyway. However, now feeling better and quite impressed with the product. I still have some left in both tubes and am surprised. I love the feel of it on my skin, I like the smell, especially the night one. I'm sure my skin is softer, the small creases around my eyes have improved - but I have made sure I apply liberally there. I don't have much pigmentation so haven't noticed a difference there It is expensive but as I don't normally splash out on other things I would be prepared to pay for this as it seems to have an effect. I would definately recommend it to a friend. I shall be interested to see just how long it does last. One small criticism, the day serum seems to leave a slight 'deposit' on my skin which does not alwasy sit well under makeup but have only noticed that once or twice.

newfield Thu 14-Nov-13 17:50:04

I have used restore and renew for 4 weeks now, both tubes nearly empty. Also used protect and perfect cream over it.
Overall impressions- very easy to use, spread very easily over face and neck.
Lines and wrinkles only very slightly decreased , skin does seem very slightly firmer, slightly rehydrated. Very soft and smooth to touch.
I have been outdoors dog walking, gardening etc. -skin doesn't feel at all dry after this activity.
I am nearly 70 years old and I am impressed with the over all effect on my skin.
I would put this on my wishlist but I think it unlikely that I could afford £24.95 per month.
If friends could afford it I would have no hesitation in saying yes try it.
I have enjoyed this trial so thank you for inviting me to take part.

Charleygirl Thu 14-Nov-13 18:28:24

I like the different coloured tubes for easy identification

The perfume is pleasant and the serum is easy to apply- it spreads easily and a little goes a long way

Afrer immediate application the skin feels soft and smooth

The small creases around my eyes have improved very slightly

My neck is smoother and softer

I do not have much/any pigmentation so no difference

I would not describe my skin as being fragile and I have noticed no difference in firmness

My skin, before application, appeared to have a healthy glow so no difference in radiance

Would I buy the product again? No, it is too expensive for very little difference and the product, for the price, does not last long

Would I recommend to a friend? Not sure-the cost is a major factor, the difference seemingly being smoother, softer skin. I am lucky, I have few wrinkles for my age.

Revis Thu 14-Nov-13 18:58:13

Have been using the creams for 4 weeks now and still seem to have plenty left so perhaps I am not using enough (I'm getting more parsimonious as the years go by!). I think it has helped the fine lines and it feels good to put on but can't say that there has been a huge difference. My neck does feel smoother as it got very dry with the sun this summer. I like the feel under make-up and it does seem to help make-up to last longer. I would buy it as a special treat or if I had saved plenty of points but am not sure if I would pay full price - I would expect it to last longer.

lyndyloo Thu 14-Nov-13 19:04:42

After four weeks I cannot say that there has been a massive improvement in my skin. Some of the fine lines have diminished but not totally vanished. I do not feel that the tube is adequate enough for eight weeks. Whether or not I would buy this product I am unsure

dancingfeet Thu 14-Nov-13 19:15:44

The serums are lasting longer than I first anticipated and I do find them very smooth and pleasant to use. I am using them with the matching creams so my skin does feel well moisturised.
I have not noticed any difference in the lines, pigmentation or firmness but my skin does look a bit brighter.
As I haven't received any comments from friends about my appearance, I probably would not recommend them as I am not sure they would be able to afford them and they have their own routines. I already have a reputation of being rather profligate and gullible with cosmetics!
I still have plenty left so will keep up with it and have enjoyed trialling the products.

Flowerofthewest Thu 14-Nov-13 19:43:40

Four weeks now and skin looks brighter and smoother, on cheeks though. I would have loved the wrinkles around my mouth to have lessened but they have not. Pigmentation, especially with one age spot I had has disappeared.

I do love the serum but would find it quite expensive to purchase every four weeks, thank you for the opportunity to try it though. I would buy again with the usual Boots No 7 vouchers. Also would recommend to friends.

Hwelle01 Thu 14-Nov-13 19:53:29

My overall impression is that it is a good product, attractive container and easy to dispense at first although as you get towards the end, the packaging rather like toothpaste is not easy to extract and therefore unless you cut open the tube, I imagine there is quite a bit of waste; expensive waste. The serum smells very pleasant and is silky to the touch.
I believe that there is quite a significant difference in the overall appearance to my skin but this might be because I have adopted a religious 'beauty routine' during the trial which is definitely not the norm. I'm not sure I can kid myself that any lines and wrinkles have vanished. Not sure what to say about firmness and pigmentation and fragility because I am not sure they were ever an issue but I would say that my skin does look brighter and clearer and this is in the depths of November so on that score the product is impressive.
I think the cost is a real issue and am not convinced that even though the product does have benefits for the skin that the price is one that can easily be overlooked. I come from a generation where that is actually a quarter of a hundred pounds and whilst I know the younger generation are more inclined to not pay so much heed to the price of a beauty product, I am not certain that my generation think the same. The size of the tube is really miniscule so I really think you are on to a loser there unless you are considering, permanently having some sort of offer on but I would never feel happy about walking out of a shop with a tiny sliver of serum and a large £25 hole in my purse.
Yes I would recommend the serum to a friend - I have already mentioned how impressed I am with it to quite a few people but I firmly believe that the price is a big issue.
Hope that helps and thank you for the opportunity to test the product

Flowerofthewest Thu 14-Nov-13 20:05:27

Updated after a month of use.

Love the packaging

Love the feel of it going onto my skin.

Moisturiser glides on and I need less

I have noticed my skin is brighter and slightly firmer

Small wrinkles on my cheeks have gone almost.

I would recommend it to friends

I would buy it with a No 7 voucher as I feel it is a bit too expensive for
me to buy monthly

Thank you for the opportunity of allowing me to try this wonderful serum out.

Milly Thu 14-Nov-13 20:45:01

The little tubes had a big challenge as I am 78 with sun damaged skin!! The texture of the cream felt pleasing to my face, and I thought there was a slight improvement and that if I continued for 6 months or more there might be an appreciable improvement. But I don't feel that at my age I can justify the price.

grannygrunt Fri 15-Nov-13 00:03:39

I took a close up photograph of my face before I started using the serums. (Not a pretty sight !) but it has been useful to compare before and after shits.
My skin feels really nice and my husband and daughter both say the can see an improvement.
I think the product is starting to make a real difference but unfortunately price is too much for me to be able to purchase it on a regular basis.
I would recommend the serum to my richer friends though.

Grannylin Fri 15-Nov-13 00:20:15

Its late grannygrunt and I blame your IPad, but thanks so much for cheering me up before I went to bed grin

inna Fri 15-Nov-13 09:42:03

Skin feels smoother, no difference to pigmentation but overall skin feels much better. Goes onto skin smoothly, I would love to purchase but at £24.95 a tube I am so sad it is so expensive. May buy it with a Boots voucher when I get one , but sadly my budget does not cover £50 a month for day and night serums. Thankyou for samples. I would recommend it to my friends.

tiller30 Fri 15-Nov-13 10:05:24

Update at the end of the 3rd week
I have noticed a slight improvement to the lines around my eyes and my neck seems smoother.
Twice I have had a spot appear on my cheek which disappears within an hour or so, I dont get spots and cant quite understand it.I wonder if my skin is in shock from the extra pampering.!
I am enjoying using this product l but will not be able to continue to pay the price unless I can use vouchers etc and rely on gifts .
It is a shame such a good product made especially for pensioners does not take into account pensioners pockets !!

yeye Fri 15-Nov-13 12:27:07

The serums arrived just before I went on a 2-week trip to Arizona - plenty of dry atmosphere to stress my already dry skin, perfect test conditions I thought! I would have liked some indication of how much to use/application. I had just read a review of a similar product which mentioned using just a drop, so although I used quite a big drop, I was quite sparing with it but it still only lasted a little over 2 weeks. I found it pleasant to use, went on well, easily absorbed, not sticky. My usual moisturiser (Yves Rocher) went on as usual over the top. So all that was good, but did it make a difference? Honestly, no! I use YR products because they absorb well, so no change there. And, sad to say, no change in quantity and quality of the lines and wrinkles! Boo! So I wont be buying more. As for recommending it to a friend, I wouldn't say "dont touch this", but I would qualify with all of the above.

bluemoon Fri 15-Nov-13 13:36:05

Q1) Absorbed easily & felt good
Q2)Feels firmer & looks good
Q3) I'm afraid that price is too much for me to buy & use.
Q4) I would tell a friend what it was like using it & then they would decide if they wanted to use it (if they could afford it).

Overall a nice experience to try it & it improved my neck more than my face.

graninfrance Fri 15-Nov-13 13:40:26

I was a little late in starting this trial, as the serums had to be sent abroad to me. I like the fragrance of them and feel that they glide on easily. My skin feels instantly soft and smooth, although I have quite good skin for my age (66) in any case. It seemed at first that my moisturisers were not absorbed as readily as usual, although I think this is mainly for the nighttime one, which is richer - I do feel a bit greasy afterwards. I wonder whether a Number 7 moisturiser would be more compatible. It's probably a little soon to tell whether the very fine lines above my mouth are lessening. I have few wrinkles - I've always assumed this is due to a rather oily skin when I was younger - so I don't expect much change there, but I would be happy if the slight 'flabbiness' around my chin became firmer. Certainly, my skin feels firmer when the serum is applied, without seeming 'tight'. I had assumed these were trial sizes - I'm doubtful that they will last 4 weeks, let alone 8, which is a pity. If this is full size, it is rather expensive, but probably comparable in price to other makes. I have tried other serums (free samples only, so never enough for more than a few days) and feel that this one compares well. I appreciate the identifiable tubes, so no need to put on my specs to select the correct one! I will most likely recommend them but would hope for good promotional prices in order to buy them myself.

GrandmaDuck Fri 15-Nov-13 14:11:53

Have been using this product for four weeks now and can definitely see some results. I have good skin anyway but the faded effects, usually seen at this time of year after a lovely summer spent outdoors, have been avoided. My skin feels silky smooth and looks clear and hydrated so few wrinkles show - but, thanks to my genes, I don't have many anyway. Not sure how much is due to the serum and how much to my more conscientious beauty regime.

Exiro Fri 15-Nov-13 15:26:33

Easy to apply and skin continues to feel soft, no other discernible benefits I am afraid so I would not purchase in addition to regular day/night cream.

NannaAnna Fri 15-Nov-13 15:53:36

OK, 4 weeks on, and here's what I think:
Firstly, I took several close-up 'before' and 'after' photos of different areas of my face, and to be honest I can't see any difference at all in the lines or pigmentation (which is on one cheek).
Happy to share photos with the researchers if they are of any use or interest grin

Q1: What were your overall impressions of No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum?
A: It went further than expected. It's easy to apply. It feels pleasant on the skin.

Q2. After using Restore & Renew Day & Night serum for four weeks, how significantly has your skin changed in the following areas? If so please give details.
A: Looking at my before and after photos, I would say no visible difference after 4 weeks.
· Lines and wrinkles - None
· Firmness - Not that I have noticed
· Pigmentation - None
· Fragility - Not something I have concerns over (yet!)
· Skin’s radiance - Possibly slightly better?

Q3. The RRP for No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum is £24.95, do you think you'd be likely to buy the product again or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
A: I used to buy the original serum regularly a few years ago, and only stopped due to financial constraints. I would like to try these 2 serums for a longer spell of time as I'm not sure 4 weeks is long enough to get real benefits, but at the moment financial constraints are still an issue.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the serums to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
A: I would suggest that they are worth trying, but only to friends why have a reasonable income. Those of us just on a State pension don't have the money to spare, so I would be selective about who I recommended them to.

BarbaraAbbs Sat 16-Nov-13 10:23:41

I like using it - it goes on so pleasantly. And I think the fine lines are improved. It hasn't had any effect on a couple of age spots that I have.

Also like the different coloured tubes. It does make it easy to pick up the right one in the evening when I am tired. I like the tiny little cellophane tray they stand up in. It keeps the tubes tidy and stops them rolling out on the floor every time I open the bathroom cabinet. (Perhaps everyone isn't as untidy as me with lipsticks, eyeshadow lying about!)

It has lasted - but like others gransnetters, I am probably parsimonious having been brought up during the war.

BarbaraAbbs Sat 16-Nov-13 10:28:01

Re questions 3 and 4, It is quite expensive, so I would put it on my Christmas list. I might buy it again if I was feeling flush (premium bonds or Boots points)

I would recommend it as worth a try.

petallus Sat 16-Nov-13 12:57:23

Q1 Overall impression: Packaging good. Easy to access right amount of serum. Delicately scented. Smooths over skin nicely.

Q2 Effect on skin: Not possible to say for certain that wrinkles or anything else has changed. My skin is better on some days than others anyway. Maybe more radiance. What I do appreciate is that this product makes my skin feel better which is more important to me than getting rid of wrinkles.

Q3 Price: I would pay £24.99 for this product. After four weeks there s still plenty left and I use less ordinary day cream when using the serum so there would be a saving there.

Q4 Recommending to friends: Yes, I would recommend this product to friends.

helenrj Sat 16-Nov-13 15:59:08

Overall impression not as good as other products in the No 7 range.
Q2. No change except rash on cheeks and chin
Q3. Too expensive
yQ4. Wouldn't say anything as everyone is different and my experience
is negative for this product but as I use most products in the No 7 for skin care and cosmetics, and have no problems would let them make up
their own mind.
