DP having a lie in so I start to make some boiled eggs for myself and DS. DP surfaces so I tell him he can have my egg because I was not that bothered. How long has it been on? he asks. I told him to look at the timer next to the cooker to which he replied I don't use a timer I don't know how they work! This man was a manager of over 100 staff ! I told him to stop being so bl####y awkward at which point by stomped off saying he did not want the egg!angry

feetlebaum Sun 06-Apr-14 11:21:22

Oh seasider -so aggressive! Did he tell you where to dispose of the egg in question, and would it have been uncomfortable to comply?

I think we should be told...

He wanted it in the egg cup with buttered soldiers on the plate and placed in front of him at the table with a nice cuppa at the side. Obviously doesn't do self service smile

What does DP stand for? Dependant Person?

Because most are genetically programmed and most mothers find boys easier to cope with due to their lower independence traits in childhood. Girls want to dress themselves, boys want to to do it for them so fewer arguments etc. I think mothers are also genetically programmed to pander to the lazy boy syndrome as this has been happening for donkey's years.

Not sure if this counts, but I'm fed up with getting a wet bottom!

The washbasin in the bathroom is quite close to the loo. When Mr P has his wash and shave he sems to splash water everywhere! I go in for a wee, sit down and get wet! All is ask is that he puts the lid down before having his wash, but it seems to be an impossible task confused

Mishap Sun 06-Apr-14 12:13:18

Ah, but putting the lid down has its disadvantages! My OH sometimes does this last thing at night in the ensuite and I creep out there half-asleep I place my bed-warm nethers onto the icy plastic - not nice!

Elegran Sun 06-Apr-14 12:23:38

I was fedup with either
a) Going into the ensuite in the almost-dark and fumbling around to find the loo or
b) Fumbling around for the light switch so that I could find the loo and then having to find my way back to bed in the very dark the light was out.

I have solved it - I bought a small motion-sensor battery-powered light which is aimed from inside the ensuite towards the bed. when I get out it comes on, and stays on as long as there is movement within its view plus half-a-minute or so. Long enough to get back into bed, and no switching on anything.

feetlebaum, on a Sunday morning, many years ago, and in our first months together, DH made a badly thought-out remark about the consistency of his fried egg, which I'd served to him in bed. I was a strong lass in those days (still am) and so I turned him over and shoved the offending egg where the sun didn't shine - crispy edges and all! I'm better at frying eggs these days, although oddly enough DH (yes, we are still together) still prefers to cook his own for some reason hmmgrin

Ana Sun 06-Apr-14 12:51:26

Marelli! shock I'd always imagined you as being a gentle soul...

Marelli Sun 06-Apr-14 13:04:41

I hide my light under a bushel, Ana wink!

Aka Sun 06-Apr-14 13:07:42

What exactly is a bushel anyway? Sounds like somewhere the sun don't shine for sure!

Marelli Sun 06-Apr-14 13:28:48

It does, Aka! I can only remember a bushel as being part of a times-table that we had to recite each morning in primary school (was it 8 pecks = 1 bushel)? Oh dear, that seems to make it sound even worse....confused!

Elegran Sun 06-Apr-14 13:36:10

I think the saying is to do with a basket that held a bushel - if you hid your light under an upturned one it would not be seen (might set fire to the basket, though - that would be seen)

Marelli Sun 06-Apr-14 13:46:34

And therefore set fire to the bushel, Elegran - which could be very upsetting!

Pittcity Sun 06-Apr-14 14:28:32

Elegran thought your sensor night light was an excellent idea as it is the click made by DH using the bathroom light at night that wakes me rather then the light itself, but then I remembered that his is a reflex action as he often turns the light out if it is already on before realising!!

seasider it sounds like he woke up in a bad mood, it was kind of you to offer him your egg smile a bit un grateful of him but if he is usually a nice person then I guess you could let this one go smile Partners!! you cant live with them and sometimes better off without them.

Bellasnana Sun 06-Apr-14 14:31:19

Mishap grin. I've done that too! Doesn't half wake you up grin

janeainsworth Sun 06-Apr-14 14:59:08

Aka a bushel is an archaic word for bowl, and the expression is derived from a parable in the New Testament.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamp_under_a_bushel

ninathenana Sun 06-Apr-14 15:05:02

Aka I'm guessing DP is Dear Partner

Anne58 Sun 06-Apr-14 15:06:28

Bucket please.

Aka Sun 06-Apr-14 15:07:08

'A bushel is an imperial and U.S. customary unit of dry volume, equivalent in each of these systems to 4 pecks or 8 gallons (9.31 U.S. liquid gallons). It is used for volumes of dry commodities (not liquids), most often in agriculture. It is abbreviated as bsh. or bu. In modern usage, the dry volume is usually only nominal, with bushels referring to standard weights instead.'
From Wikiwhatsit.

So a bushel is 8 gallons dry measure and/or a bowl presumably holding 8 gallons.

So a peck is half a gallon Marelli

Then there are rods and poles and perches hmm

What was this thread about?

Aka Sun 06-Apr-14 15:09:04

No make that 2 gallons for a peck and yes, it's probably a good size for a bucket Ana grin

Aka Sun 06-Apr-14 15:10:22

Sorry Phoenix it's you who wanted the bucket.

(Wanders off in need of stimulant)

Marelli Sun 06-Apr-14 15:15:23

And then of course there are chains, 22yds of which make one - the length of a cricket pitch - if I remember rightly since I last recited it 54 years ago hmm?
Perhaps he (DP) was grumpy because DS and you had sorted breakfast and he felt left out! I have one a bit like that.
