Now retired, my husband wants us to travel - I will miss Grandchildren!

We are just retired and my husband wants to go away for 3-4 months to Mexico (as we always dreamed of doing when we retired). But now that the time has come I find it difficult to be away from Grand-daughter (will be 3) and Grand-son (will be 7 months). My husband thinks i am being unreasonable, but i am heart broken.
I am just wondering if other grandmas feel like I do. My daughter (single child) and I are very close and we help out with baby a lot. She says she understands, that we are retired now and of course we would want to travel. But i can't help feeling guilty for leaving her with a baby and 3 year old and i am not around to help when they need it (like daycare backup when they are sick for example) or to give them a date-night. I will also miss them terribly, and all the "firsts" with new grand baby. I know i can FaceTime/skype but it isn't the same.
Any other grandmas face this??

Agree. Via Rail is excellent. I stopped off in Winnipeg ( the museum of human rights is a MUST see) and went up into Churchill for the polar bears. Then carried on back to Winnipeg and complete journey through to Seattle. The Starlight express is also good from Seattle to LA although I would most definately NOT recommend Union Station in LA for lone female travellers at night (long story but it involved myself, a hooker, assorted weird males and two police Lts plus reinforcements. Oh I could write a book about my travels.

The train from Boston through to the Berkshires is wonderful in the fall and beats driving. The trees look magnificent.

Brilliant River Boat trips in America on the Mississippi river.

These river cruises look lovely but I'm afraid that America is off our list of places to be right now. We'd get in OK but I don't want to give that country a single dollar!!

Know what you mean, Jane10 Some lovely ideas on another thread, but my holiday money will go elsewhere, not to my country of birth until that nutjob is gone! Helloooo Canada!

Oh... and on a money thread, I had a mini-rant about Premium Bonds. We never seemed to hardly any cheques. The PB fairy does not seem to fly my way with her prizes. I also don't fancy lending the UK govt my money anymore for such rubbish interest. confused

All depends on how emotionally attached you are. The longest I did it for was 3 weeks and even the last week I couldn't think of anything else. Couldn't have done 3 months.
Didn't matter what anyone else said to me. Thankfully my husband understands
