I haven't hosted Xmas for 5 years either! My sons partner has really spoilt me not cooked Xmas dinner for so long they all came here when they lived in London 5 years ago now they 185 miles away they invite us to go stay.
The first yesrmshe met my son she did us Xmas dinner how kind was that.

Looks like everyone's managed to enjoy their Christmas. It must have been lovely spending the day with your little GD.

We had such a fabulous day with DS. He sent a pic to a friend in Aus. of our Christmas table just before we ate so they'd know how we Brits do Christmas.

So many cuddles, I wish I could bottle them. To feel his strong arms around me and his love is simply priceless. We had the best Christmas we've had for 5 years.

So glad you enjoyed your time with your DS Celeb. Now we have to get ourselves ready for the New Year celebrations; let's hope it's a good one for us all.

Glad that everyone seems to have enjoyed Xmas and that GA got that wonderful message! I always think the day will come when many of these eac will miss their parents or decide they made a mistake, as they see their own kids getting older and find they have some conflicts, etc. Maybe that's what's happening with GA's dd.

Or not. And, of course, I know it doesn't happen in every case.

Christmas sadness Celebgran on grandparenting

Good morning everyone and I have got through another Christmas day whew, without seeing or hearing from estDS and DGC. A few moments of tears, one when watching Call The Midwife on Christmas Day.

Onward and upward. Well trying to.

Aagh ?Sparklygran sorry I had tears.

Thankfully I didn't even when sent pic of ed and youngest Granddaughter beyond sad never seen her, worried for ed but no tears,

Mind you we were surrounded with love and warmth with dear sons family so that helped!

Me, I have a new boxed set, a bottle of something nice and some Waitrose goodies to settle down with for NY eve.

Some cousins might pop in, daytime NYD. They are kind and lovely.

Today I have been ironing since 6pm, getting the pile down. Its soothing and I feel its taken my mind off estrangement.

I did a pile of ironing yesterday; if I'd known how much you seem to enjoy it Sparkly I'd have saved it for you.

DS is out with his mates this evening and we have our girls coming round for a meal and no doubt loads of laughter. One thing's for certain, it wont be a quiet night in.

The champers is chilling and we'll be able to watch the fire works from our roof terrace.

Only 2 days until he returns to Aus.. It's been a wonderful Christmas but not without a few delicate moments and I know my heart will break when he leaves.

The decorations are down and DS is back in Aus. so life is going back to normal, what ever that is.

His stay all be it wonderful, brought home to the 3 of us how difficult it is for GP's CO of their GC's lives when their other child(ren) is going to spend time with them. I did wonder if it would have made it easier for us all, if we'd asked questions about them but I know it would only hurt us to have those questions answered, to know a little about them IMO is worse than knowing nothing at all.

Our eldest will be 6 in a few days time. DS said nothing at all to me about his visits but did say a few things to Mr. S. One being that on a couple of occasions there was an awkward moment when talk turned to parents and GP's. He didn't give any details but said the conversation quickly went in another direction.

I thought how foolish our ES was being. If he's so sure that he's done the right thing, why not deal with it? Why not tell his 6 year old that they don't want to see us and because of that, him and his brother don't see us, their GP's. That when he's older he'll tell him lies in more detail, what happened.

We're gradually disappearing under a mountain of paperwork as we get close to closing the sale on our villa in Florida. I'm sure it wasn't this complicated when we were buying it. Maybe I should tell Mr. S. I've changed my mind and want to keep it after all.

Hi smilless decos still up here as got fiends coming for supper Saturday so will get them down Sunday.

Yes it's very hard when someone visits our estranged ones. My estD's meeting with her uncle didn't aspire, she didn't turn up, left him waiting in London, coupled with the fact he missed my Xmas family gathering, his sister phoned him whilst at mine and got the news. I have always held my b.i.l [prev.] in high esteem, but a little chink has gone, owing to the fact he's meetings with my estD are kept from me, I get the news through my ND, if it was me meeting his Son or D, I would keep him informed. He did have a time when his Son fell out with him, for quite a few months, if not a year, owing to the disapproval of his girlfriend, now wife [she is younger than my ND

My ND will try and get a little more info from her uncle, but doesn't want it to appear too wanting [for want of a better word] So yes, I like to hear a little news on them S, bitter sweet!

I said to my ND, 'I don't know why he is not open about his meetings, as we only want to know a little bit of info on them, we are not doing anything with it, just to know. Anyway this is the third time she/they have stood him up, so he hasn't seen them for almost the same time as us now!
