Don't people check the seat and clean round before they leave - some toilets splash the flushing water on to the seat anyway!

Actually, no some people don't, hence having to clean it before you use it yourself.

My partner urinates on his compost. I am not sure that adds anything to the discussion but if his urine is good for the soil, surely wee that has been thoroughly washed away in the shower can't be too harmful to the water system.

All our drinking water is filtered and treated, isn't it? (In fact it doesn't bear thinking about really - the way our water is before it is processed and flows through our taps.

Our tap water sometimes stinks of chlorine - it's a wonder our skin and our insides are not bleached.

Yes Jalimait is noticeable on our travels around the UK that some tap water smells a bit 'bleachy" Fortunately where we are the water has no odour or taste.

It certainly doesn't smell of urine either! so the shower urinators aren't leaving their mark!

I did suggest to DH that he could try weeing, sorry urinating, on the compost heap but he's too embarrassed in case one of the neighbours sees him.

My late FiL a had a 'piddlin' watering can that he kept behind the shed.

I never intend to wee in the shower, but all that running water, always stimulates and causes urnination, whether I have been before I went in the shower or not. I suspect that applies to most people.

If you are on a water meter peeing in the shower is a good way to save water. I often do so. I also try not to spend longer than five minutes in the shower.

It happens from time to time. You wee first in the toilet and then the water may stimulate a little additional contribution. Its straight down the drain, and then if you spray the shower with the standard spray it all clean. Urine never had time to linger.

I mentioned this to a group of friends once. They all went very po faced and said that was something they would never do.

After reading this thread I think they were fibbing.

Cherry tree I m intrigued, first by someone who has a big enough bladder to last 10 hours I am in awe of you, secondly I have no ability to understand why you can hover in Dubai but not hover on the plane, I wish there was an emoji that bowed to your talent ? ?‍♀️

Lastly can it be good to hold your bladder for such long periods we pass water to keep our system cleansed

Sparklefizz has it right. Two different systems. Nowadays both drains are covered but separate. Still though plenty houses with an "open" waste water drain (small grill in ground at back wall of property). Those who urinate in shower, yuck!

Some homes off the sewage system deal with their sewage through a reed bed system. There is one on an organic estate near us, which I have seen. The water in the pond at the end of the system is clean enough to swim in, and employees do.

Since water from the shower goes into the same drains as water flushed down the loo - and that contains wee and much else, it is not unhygienic on that front.

There can be very little surface water on the planet that hasn't passed through many people - and animals and industrial processes, since the first amoeba made life in an ocean.

The best way to save water in the shower is to have a "Navy shower": get wet - turn off shower - soap/shampoo where necessary - turn on shower to rinse off - turn off shower.

Repeat if using conditioner.

Don't leave the shower continually spraying while you are soaping.

A friend whose husband was on Naval submarines gave this advice.

MiniMoon Most Aussies are very water-use conscious. Many of them think it is wasteful to flush unnecessarily. They have a little rhyme. I hope it doesn't offend anyone's sensibilities!

Urine is sterile when it exits the body unless of course there is a urinary tract infection in which case it won't be.
