Nosila, I am sure that the candles, incense, plain chant, vestments, flowers, etc. had a profound effect on me as a child in post-war Salford, where beauty was in short supply. Until I was about 12, I was very devout, going to mass on my way to school most days. Then I started asking questions and got no sensible answers.
