My first reaction was bloody hell!

My second was Chortle! and a sad shake of the head

feetlebaum Wed 17-Jul-13 14:53:22

And in 2013 there are still people around who will believe this stuff?

Mishap Wed 17-Jul-13 15:18:21

This surely has to be a joke?!

Greatnan Wed 17-Jul-13 15:33:58

I thought the idea of purgatory had gone the way of limbo, so I would hazard a guess that it is a joke, but would Sky News be publishing it? Micelf?????

Ana Wed 17-Jul-13 15:34:09

Of course it's not a joke. Yes, it seems ludicrous to those of us who aren't practising RCs but live and let live, for goodness sake...

Perhaps the Religion and Spirituality Thread could change to "Lets mock other peoples' beliefs thread" I haven't looked at it for a while but just popped in and of course it is the same old, same old. Won't pop in again for a while.

Bugger that for a game of soldiers. If I continue to chortle at this rate, I'm going to have to change my Sloggis. shock

Greatnan Wed 17-Jul-13 16:05:23

Well, a belief that can't withstand a bit of mockery is not very strong!

soop they are quite short. They don't take much reading. And you can skim read them.

soop Wed 17-Jul-13 16:13:43

One day less in Purgatory, jings...well worth it.

soop Wed 17-Jul-13 16:16:25

When I was an eleven year old at the convent school, I was informed that, as a non Catholic I wouldn't get out of purgatory. Know what? I believed it at the time. wink

j08 Wed 17-Jul-13 16:16:42

Wot, no nice book or anything? hmm

j08 Wed 17-Jul-13 16:18:29

I hope he doesn't read some of the replies he gets. shock

Don't you go reading those soop.

j08 Wed 17-Jul-13 16:19:32

Greatnan probably writes some of 'em. And Bags.

soop Wed 17-Jul-13 16:56:23

Titters...[naughty ones!] grin

soop Wed 17-Jul-13 17:00:15

As a child, I spent almost all my lunchtime praying in the Lady Chapel. Didn't do me a scrap of good. Still, haven't turned out too badly since. Mind my P's and Q's, don't drop litter, hardly ever get tipsy, do my best to be kind to little old ladies etc., wink

wisewoman Wed 17-Jul-13 17:00:21

Of course beliefs can stand mockery but what is the point? What is achieved? It is like a group giggling and pointing at the expense of another group. Like the playground. I find it upsetting (not because of my beliefs or otherwise) so will just go away. Shouldn't have stuck my nose in again. Serves me right.

soop Wed 17-Jul-13 17:00:55

...and take care of stray cats...grin

j08 Wed 17-Jul-13 17:03:00

Wisewoman I'm sorry.

soop Wed 17-Jul-13 17:05:31

jings on this occasion you've nowt to be sorry about. Wisewoman I'm sorry to have upset you. I shall take myself away to do something useful. flowers

When Murray was on the point of winning Wimbledon, our little feller couldn't resist putting his hands together and offering up a quick prayer to Jesus.

So some children still do it soop.
