God and war

I am starting this thread because there seems to be huge differences between what people think, and what is actually in the Bible about this.

God is slow to anger. And in the Bible seems to give people multiple chances to repent.

But he is not a pushover, and war was quite frequent in the Bible.

I in no way know everything about this subject, but wanted to start a discussion anyway.

Revelation should not be twisted. It is what it is.

Anniebach Wed 04-Nov-15 10:51:25

soon, God sent Christ to us to show us the way to live - this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased

Anyway back to wars, caused by greed and power

soontobe Wed 04-Nov-15 10:56:46

God obviously showed us the way to live too.

soontobe Wed 04-Nov-15 10:58:32

that should be shows.

Some of the wars in the Bible were instigated by God because of man's disobedience to him.
Though not at all sure that that happens nowadays at all.

Anniebach I'm with you on this. Soon you have your way of thinking and we have another but whether any of us are correct in our beliefs only God knows. It is all a matter of faith.

Anniebach Wed 04-Nov-15 22:15:40

True Crafting, it comes down to faith and for me this is summed up by Paul's letter to the Romans - faith comes from hearing the word of God and this is heard through the word of Christ

soontobe Thu 05-Nov-15 08:15:26

It comes down to the Bible too.

Anniebach Thu 05-Nov-15 09:31:21

soon, I just quoted the bible

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 05-Nov-15 10:01:43

soontobe what else do they do all day? I mean, God sitting on his throne with Jesus on his right? All the time. Really???

I'm not be facetious. I just don't see how that would work.

soontobe Thu 05-Nov-15 10:04:02

Are you trying to get rid of God in that verse?
I dont understand what you are trying to do, as that verse is part of a much longer passage.

soontobe Thu 05-Nov-15 10:06:14

I have never thought of that question before jingl. A good question really.

It is going to take me some time to find out. Not sure how much it says about point.

God listens to prayers. As it happens, I was thinking that makes him rather busy!

soontobe Thu 05-Nov-15 10:06:56

that point.

soontobe Thu 05-Nov-15 10:07:51

10.04am post to Ab.

Anniebach Thu 05-Nov-15 12:29:48

soon, do you not read posts ? I said hearing the word of God , just how can you ask such a silly question, it is not possible to separate Christ from God. Do you not believe in The Holy Trinity.

I didn't post the entire passage because I do not search the internet then copy and post, I post from memory of scripture read

Your faith baffles me sorry

soontobe Thu 05-Nov-15 13:34:41

I am relieved by your post Ab.
I am glad you believe in God, Christ and the Holy Spirit, as do I.

jingl, still looking into your question.

soontobe Sat 07-Nov-15 10:25:52

I had to google jingl.
There are many verses about God sitting on his throne, so I can only conclude that he does or will do it a lot.

There are 2 or 3 or more parts in the Bible where there is some more information if you are interested.
They are
Isaiah chpt 40, Ezekiel especially chapters 43 and 44, and psalm 11.
Hope this helps.

There is talk of `if there was a God there wouldn't be any war/famine/death etc` but perhaps we are reading it wrong.

Who rules the world? God? Some people think that the devil rules, not God and that would maybe explain a lot.

Anniebach Sat 07-Nov-15 22:11:16

Man rules the world hence the wars, poverty, cruelty

soontobe Sun 08-Nov-15 13:38:24

www.gotquestions.org/Satan-god-world.html

It is a complicated answer.

Anniebach Sun 08-Nov-15 16:45:10

And it's an opinion not a fact

soontobe Sun 08-Nov-15 20:04:44

Quotes from the New Testament are opinions and not facts. In your opinion?
Am I understanding you correctly?

durhamjen Sun 08-Nov-15 20:12:50

Of course it's an opinion. It's a letter written by Saint Paul. It's his opinion.

soontobe Sun 08-Nov-15 20:25:49

The gospel of John?
The book of 1 John?

And I hate, and I dont use that word lightly, hate, that people including Christians dismiss many books in the New Testament because they are written by Paul, and therefore are deemed too difficult to carry out what is written in them.

etheltbags1 Sun 08-Nov-15 20:38:57

soon to be, I may be niaive but can you tell me why does god (if he exists) allow war and illness to happen. Cant he guide us to live better lives and not to fight each other, and live healthy lives without diseases such as cancer and other horrible illnesses

durhamjen Sun 08-Nov-15 20:46:02

Soon, your link was to Corinthians.
