Crucifixion was a slow death and although family and friends tried to give them water it only prolonged the agony.
Imagine this death for someone who had never done anything but good in the world.
Jesus knew that there was only one way for things to end.
Thirst for water, thirst for life, thirst for salvation.

Thank you, Annie x

His mother couldn't even moisten his lips , just as mothers in drought ridden countries watch their child thirst.

These words are so simple , no music, no poetry, just words from the heart , physical pain, feeling deserted, being betrayed, facing death, watching loved ones suffer.

annsixty Wed 28-Mar-18 12:04:50

His agony and that of his loved ones when he uttered those words must have been unbearable.
I do donate monthly to Wateraid, this has made me think I should donate more as the agony of those children in third world countries is just the same.
Thank you Annie once more for opening my eyes.
These words have more than one meaning in the present times.

Thank you Annie - this also keeps us mindful of the needs of others.

Physical need, such pain, the whipping, the walk carrying the cross, hanging through the heat of the day. The human Jesus, human suffering . Inflicted by man.

There is also a spiritual thirst , we all suffer this, not all in the same way but we too thirst.

I certaintly thirst

The dark night of the soul.

Such anguish. Had he a hope that his father would act, stop his suffering?

How often do we hear "where was God " when there is suffering?

I use to think when young, - why didn't God send down a bolt of lightening on those who were inflicting this suffering . Why didn't he send Angels down to take Christ from that cross.

He had to suffer this for us . We hear this utter despair but we know it was followed by the resurrection.

Many of us know "the dark night of the soul'. but because Christ experienced it we know too there will be the dawn .

How loved we are.

BBbevan Tue 27-Mar-18 09:04:18

Every time I read one of Annie's daily posts, I have tears in my eyes .

annsixty Tue 27-Mar-18 08:39:22

Thank you Annie
How many of us with problems which seem insoluble have cried out those words?
When we get some small glimmer of hope we realise help was there, we had to ask or find it for ourselves

Anniebach Tue 27-Mar-18 08:32:20

4th Word

"MY GOD,MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME"

Anniebach Mon 26-Mar-18 22:16:00

If we think more about Mary, she had that journey to Bethlehem, gave birth in a outhouse, no gas and air, then had to flew her country to save her baby from being murdered. When he was twelve she and Joseph went for their annual journey to Jerusalem for the Passover, they lose him and takes three days to find him in the temple talking to the teachers. She ticks him off and he just said ' you know I would be in my fathers house' . Then comes his trial, watching him carry his cross, and all the horror that followed, as a priest once said to me ' she was one strong lady' as a mother I could only think her heart must have been broken. I too agree with you joyblogs .
