I wish that I had a Faith

Hello Everyone
Yes, I do wish that I had a faith.

My family on my mom's side are church goers and I went to a Methodist chapel and Sunday school as a child.

But I just don't seem to have the gene, for wont of a better expression.
I'm very 'envious' of those who have a strong belief.
I work in a Catholic school and I often really wish that I shared what many of my friends and colleagues have.

It's the sense of community, and continuity too. Not just the 'going to church' thing, (I don't think that I could ever get into going to church) but more of a deep bond and understanding.

Lots and lots of things. It seems like a human need. I definitely feel like I'm missing something.

I have been reading Annie's Good Friday thread and the other Easter threads, and I thought that I would post this and see what others think

Thank you ?️

I feel I am quite spiritual, not connected to anyone religion or church.

I do say a prayer every night, thanking my blessings and praying for my own family and friends and peace.

I sort of sit on the fence, and think there could be many gods.

Cossy I’m wondering, if there are many gods, which one you’re praying to?

Have you tried reading the Bible? That had a big impact on me when I started reading it as an adult. Many people believe it has spiritual power. I have heard quite a few stories of how believing it and acting on it has brought people into a relationship with God and changed their lives.

I also hear good things about the (free) online 321 course.

Whitewavemark2 makes the case for humanism which I absolutely agree with . Remember all the world’s religions
evolved at a time when humans had no other explanation
for the environment around them .
I worked all this out for myself very early in life but if by any means I am wrong then God will be pleased because I
used the brain I was given instead of just blindly accepting.

Hello,

I truly appreciate your honesty in expressing your thoughts and feelings. It’s understandable to feel that way, especially when you see the strong sense of community and connection that others experience through their faith. It’s not about having the “gene” for belief, but about what resonates with you on a deeper level. The sense of belonging and understanding that faith can provide is something many of us desire, even if we don't follow a particular religious path.

You’re not alone in feeling like something might be missing. Many people explore different ways of connecting with others, finding meaning, or even practicing their own spirituality outside traditional settings like church. It’s wonderful that you work in a Catholic school and are surrounded by people who share that bond. Maybe, over time, through your interactions, you might find a way to connect with that sense of community in your own way, without feeling pressure to adopt a specific belief.

Sometimes, it’s about discovering what brings you peace and a sense of understanding, whether that’s through relationships, personal reflection, or exploring different communities. Your curiosity and openness are great starting points.

Thank you again for sharing, and I hope that in time, you find the connection and understanding you're seeking. Take care.
