How do you feel about this?

I think yes.

Sago Sun 30-May-21 18:43:32

Well as a Catholic ( lapsed) I’m happy the R.C Church is moving with the times.

Galaxy Sun 30-May-21 18:40:19

Because others Catholics are telling their story that they werent allowed to be married in a catholic church because they have previously been married. They are wondering why the rules have been altered for Johnson but not for them. I think Carrie is a catholic.

Peasblossom Sun 30-May-21 18:36:29

Nope, I’m still in the dark.

Boris isn’t a Catholic? Is Carrie a Catholic then? Are neither of them Catholic? Or is it because he’s divorced?

What do you want Catholics write to a magazine or an emi hence. To support the lessening of rules that caused pain or to object?

Why would the marriage damage the Catholic Church so it never recovered?

Would anybody like to enlighten me?

Joesoap Sun 30-May-21 18:35:51

I cant see what damage it has done, they obviously got dispensation from higher up, so if it was approved there whats is there to bother about.I hope they will be very happy, third time lucky for Boris hopefully.

So many have committed suicide through massive guilt induced by the Catholic Church - not for being pedophile, but quite simply how they were born, gay. Ma father's favourite sister and my cousin's cousin- in the 40s. And 1000s more.

JaneJudge Sun 30-May-21 18:29:46

so what I think is, we need to stop defending religion and their double standards and hypocrisy.

JaneJudge Sun 30-May-21 18:28:42

I think it will drive people away when they already are. A convicted paedophile in my nearest town was given a lesser sentence for a knife related crime recently because his legal team said he was paedophile and mentally unwell because he was sexually abused at a very early age in the catholic boarding boys schools where we live. Local people were angry, pitchforks at the ready but I think what fresh hell is this when a vulnerable boy is sent to a boarding school run by religion and is sexually abused and then becomes a paedophile and seriously mental unwell in their 40s.

I certainly hope many Catholics will write to Oramus, the Magazine for Westminster Cathedral, and His eminence Nicholls who is in charge and probably made the decision.

Looks like another non- story. As you say greenlady ^next question^

And who are you to decide. It is currently a question for a great many, Catholics and non Catholics, Conservatives too. Some who were now allowed to get married in their faith due to divorce or marrying others from other faiths. The hurt, rejection and very long lasting pain (my father carried it to his grave, as confirmed by letters to his sister that she passed on to me). So do excuse me, but it is a valid question, and it is not for you to say it is not.

Kali2 Sun 30-May-21 18:21:29

Considering the day I've had - wow, I'd say this is utter nonsense.

BlueBelle Sun 30-May-21 17:38:58

The Catholic Church has so many bad skeletons this will be tiny in comparison just a lot more hypocrisy
Even yesterday I started a thread about the dreadful killing of indigenous children in Canada s special boarding schools I ve just re read about it and found the schools were run by the Catholic Church ??
It has a dreadful legacy with babies, children young mothers etc and I don’t suppose a hypercritical man will make much difference, fits in well I would think the baby was christened too I believe another thing that wouldn’t be allowed to Mr average

Witzend Sun 30-May-21 17:21:54

I’d guess it’ll be damaged infinitely less than it was by all the child abuse scandals, and all the blatant and deliberate covering up that went on.

lemongrove Sun 30-May-21 17:18:52

No, this won’t affect the Catholic church one iota, in fact it may pique interest in it if anything.?

Galaxy Sun 30-May-21 17:10:59

It was in reference to those who stated that people who had a view on this didnt have much going on in their lives. I was pointing out that was nonsense.

Mattsmum2 Sun 30-May-21 16:39:00

I know someone whose brother was forbidden to marry the love of his life because she was not catholic, then he died in a car crash soon after this conversation with his parents. Humans can be so cruel. Who cares as long as they’re happy. Happiness is so hard to find and keep nowadays because some people do what they think they should do because of others feelings and not their own. Good luck to them .

greenlady102 Sun 30-May-21 16:34:38

No. Next question?

AGAA4 Sun 30-May-21 16:27:17

In answer to the OP I would say the church will be no more damaged than it already is.

Sago Sun 30-May-21 16:25:37

What am I missing?
Why would the Catholic Church be damaged?

MerylStreep Sun 30-May-21 16:22:37

Could not agree more with your last sentence.
But come on. Blonde bloke marries the mother of his child: interesting, I don’t think so. ??

Peasblossom Sun 30-May-21 16:19:15

I don’t even understand it. Can someone explain?

MawBe Sun 30-May-21 16:17:05

Some of us can think of numerous things at once, and still have full lives, I work as as a keyworker for example, and still manage to think about what to have for tea and issues relating to the church. If your brain cant cope with holding a number of thoughts in your head I agree it would be difficult.

And the precise relevance of this comment is....?

Baggs Sun 30-May-21 15:52:13

I doubt it. Brush it off Boris doesn't let anything get in the way of what he wants.

I don't understand the desire to get married in the eyes of God when you are such a sinner (in the eyes of the Church).
If he was a true Catholic he wouldn't have sought his first divorce so why bother.

He isn't a Catholic.

I agree with GG. The Catholic Church has far too many skeletons in its numerous closets to justifiably have an opinion on one wedding.
