Scams and fraud

Scams - a dedicated thread?

I wonder whether it would be a helpful idea to have a separate thread to post incidences of scams?
I know these can be helpful to many, judging by the responses, but I fear that sometimes they may get 'lost'' within a busy 'Chat' thread.
It might be useful as a reference point and a concise piece of information for people wishing to check others' experiences of a particular contact they have received.

What do people think?

I had the txt from Royal Mail on phone this morning.I was actually waiting for a parcel but it was free postage.

It was asking for £2.99 and had to click on the link otherwise the parcel would be returned to sender.

Also had similar email last year.

Scam visitors (ie people calling at your homewith the aim of cheating you, casing the premises or carrying out a distraction burglary) have had a hard time during lockdown but with conditions easing their will soon be back with new scams.

Beware of people "selling" covid tests or surge testing (as opposed to genuine medical staff). Similarly people posing as being from a charity, council or social services.

Always ask for ID. I always tell such people that I dont allow strangers into my home without a male relative present so they will have to write to me on their headed paper for an appointment. Genuine callers from such organizations will not mind making appointments.

Better still get cctv with a camera that allows you to speak to callers. They wont even know your not home!
