I agree Nonu. But I think this time of year is a very special time when the garden comes to life again. So much beauty as if appearing from nowhere in what were patches of soil just a few weeks ago.
The little nursery where I bought mine has disappeared. Tulips are an extravagance in my garden - the mice eat them. I'm thinking of wrapping all the bulbs in chicken wire before I plant them.
I've not taken a picture to send, but a fragrance instead...when I went down to put the chucks to bed it was getting dark and the scent of the Choisya on the night air was breathtaking.
Done a stint of compost shovelling (before breakfast number two), made some date slices (cooling in soop's kitchen as we speak), done a mega washing up, partly from last night cos I was out archerifying until late. Must be brekky number three time.
I love the azalea. partly because I really dislike the one I inherited when we bought this house 7 years ago. I can't convey its fluorescence in a photo, but it shouts at you.
Yes, Aka! It's really special, isn't it? It will look lovely with Queen of the Night.
Scary camellia and bi-coloured camellia sport shown. The camellia is weird, I keep thinking I will get rid of it. It flowers white on one side, pink on the other, and red and white variations in the middle that change from year to year. I don't like it at all but it fascinates me.
Gold or green? Probably 'sundance' if gold, possibly 'goldfingers', the commonest green is plain 'ternata', there is also a green called 'white dazzler' but I can't think of any others without looking them up. Oh no, I used to have 'Aztec pearl' as well. It has spikier-looking leaves.
I think my Choisia is Astec Pearl; the evening air is suffused with its scent. I also have a very pretty pink Deutzia which may or may not be Strawberry Fields - the label has faded. The latest tulip to bloom is the almost black Queen of the Night with lovely lustrous dark petals.
Which is probably Aka's, as it is as late as Cummins. We do have Queen of the Night, quite a few of them, but they are in the shade in my OH's black bed so are later than most. I say it is his, but he chooses the plants and makes me look after them. You can't see the tulips because they are growing in amongst his collection of black hellebores and heucheras.
