By 2030 8% of UK electricity will be supplied by underwater cables.
An interesting development.

Yes LauraNorder that's very true.
We have to be vigilant not to make decisions on opinions that are out of date.

Renewable energy sources are of course safer but we’ll never produce enough from solar, wind and tidal to feed our present day needs.

Oh aye? Your faith is touching. Don't hold your breath.

As Scotty would have said, ^ye canna change the laws of physics.^

As a scientist you must be aware that the latest in q physics has done exactly that.

I'm not having the debate again, its just makes me angry smile

Oh dear - parting shot.

The laws of physics don't change. We understand them better.

This country really needs to up it's STEM education.

I would think that totally great scientists never close their minds to anything.

Agreed, although the tech has come a long way from its inception.
So every little helps.

Nice dig ???

MerylStreep

Any energy that comes from sun and wind is brilliant I. My book.
I lived for 20 years off grid with all our power coming from these 2 sources.

Have you had to update any of
your appliances MerylStreep?

LauraNorder Sat 02-Oct-21 09:54:49

Alegrias, please believe me, I didn’t mean it to be a personal dig.
Just a general comment that I believe and have repeated many times.

8% isn’t very much. Why aren’t we harvesting the Severn Bore? What happened to the Swansea Bay project and will the proposed Bridgwater Bay go ahead?

Alegrias1 Sat 02-Oct-21 09:59:26

I believe you LauraNorder, sorry if I jumped to conclusions.

However there are some things that "great scientists" will never agree to and that doesn't mean that their minds are closed. I have been accused of having a "closed mind" because I don't believe in the supernatural, and many other things. Anyway, I've diverted the thread, back to solar power.

Three of Britain’s biggest energy companies have agreed to build giant underwater power cables to bring Scotland’s vast reserves of renewable energy to millions of homes in England.
(Guardian, Nov 2020)

Why bring energy supplies all the way from Morocco when we have it in the UK ready and waiting?
