Oh brave new world

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 08-Mar-23 19:49:47

Oh poor mice.

Forsythia Wed 08-Mar-23 19:51:12

What could possibly go wrong…..

Grantanow Tue 14-Mar-23 17:51:07

No doubt some busybody will want to ban it.

Ilovecheese Tue 14-Mar-23 17:54:35

I suppose my worry is remembering Dolly the sheep who was a great success but who subsequently died very young. Can we really risk this happening to a human child?

Sago Tue 14-Mar-23 18:14:17

While people are dying of cancer, MND and a whole host of other diseases.

BlueBelle Tue 14-Mar-23 18:18:32

Let’s change everything that’s normal…. because we can 😥

VioletSky Tue 14-Mar-23 18:21:57

I'm so angry about this

Furious

Why make it so men can procreate when us women could have got rid of the lot of them

Patsy70 Tue 14-Mar-23 18:43:36

Words fail me. 😢

I hope it is banned.

Grannyben Tue 14-Mar-23 19:20:28

I have to say, I'm another one who would hope it was banned.

BlueBelle Tue 14-Mar-23 19:23:13

‘Oh I could work harder with three arms’…. great let’s give everyone three arms
Bloody ridiculous
I too hope it’s banned

VioletSky Tue 14-Mar-23 19:33:11

Why ban something that would allow gay couples to have biological children?

As long as there are no issues for the children I don't see a problem

People used to see "test tube babies" as something "wrong" yet couples who couldn't conceive are still having a chance at parenthood

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 14-Mar-23 19:37:33

You can’t compare IVF with enabling men to have children VS. There would undoubtedly be issues for the children, who should be more important than a gay man’s desire to give birth.

VioletSky Tue 14-Mar-23 19:45:25

That's not what I said GSM

If the resulting children were perfectly healthy, or at least subject to no more issues than usual.... what's the problem?

Sparklefizz Tue 14-Mar-23 20:17:06

But where in a man's body will the eggs grow into a baby? Am I missing something?

Galaxy Tue 14-Mar-23 20:21:18

They would need a surrogate. Obviously there are numerous ethical issues with surrogacy, which is why it is banned in some European countries.
If you read the article the possibility of this being replicated in humans in questioned by other scientists.

Hetty58 Tue 14-Mar-23 20:35:46

Oh deary me - if it works, there's no need for women then - we'll be redundant!

VioletSky Tue 14-Mar-23 20:55:09

They would still need a uterus

Obviously they could do this for same sex female couples too, although women can already use their eggs in thor partners uterus which is how my friends had children, with help from a donor

Galaxy Tue 14-Mar-23 20:57:42

They would need a woman, a uterus doesnt exist separately from a woman..

Katie59 Tue 14-Mar-23 21:04:08

That’s really freaky, it’s cloning and we know that doesn’t work.

VioletSky Tue 14-Mar-23 21:11:44

If the person with a uterus wants to be known as a woman

Galaxy Tue 14-Mar-23 21:36:35

I was pointing out that referring to woman as a uterus is quite bizarre.

Galaxy Tue 14-Mar-23 21:39:06

It's part of the ethical issues of surrogacy I think, the language around the issue.

Wyllow3 Tue 14-Mar-23 21:54:02

Sago

True, but look at huge numbers of those who can afford it and want it cosmetic surgery when (except for medical reasons) people starve etc etc...

Mixed feelings, not against it in theory, but feel uneasy. Think its something to do with still living in a male dominated world and power stuff.
