I joined Gransnet soon after it began. This made me eligible for a prize draw and I won a Ninetendo DS - I had never won anything other then a box of broken cheese biscuits in a raffle. So this was wonderful - I've gone on to buy several games -also some games for my GC to play. I often travel up to London to see them and this keeps me entertained during what can be a tedious journey. So Thank you for that. But, a bigger thank you for this wonderful website of people with similar problems, queries and observations. I have had a number of concerns and the other Gransnetters have been supportive and helpful. So thank you all. When I was computerless for nearly 5 months I felt bereft and it was wonderful to be back. Some GNs have come and gone - but a lot of the originals remain. Almost friends I hope. To Gransnet a big bunch of

A birthday present from us to you!
(215 Posts)As you know we will be celebrating our first birthday on 5th May - and to say thank you for making it a really special year we have put together a fabulous goodie box as a gift for one lucky Gransnetter.
All you have to do to enter is post on this thread telling us your favourite Gransnet moment from the last year.
The prize includes chocolate from Montezuma's Great British Pudding range, a bottle of No.3 gin and some fabulous books and the winner will be picked at random on Monday 7th May.
My absolute favourite was the virtual party at Blackpool Tower! I had to work so hard to keep up with everything and everyone, and laughed and giggled my way through the evening. Wot larks, Pip!
What I love is the many (and quite surprising occasionally) times SEX is mentioned! You have a lovely sense of humour and always reply immediately and always have something to say! I love your newsletter too. The only downside is the fact that I probably won't meet any of you but because you are here, I've made Twitter friends who I'd love to meet too but everybody is so friendly that I feel we should have a party somewhere, somehow, sometime!!! But, thanks for the joy and the laughter I've had over the last year - keep it up - you'll just probably get better and better. Bless you all for being here!
I really am enjoying the site but most of all taking part in the survey about my grandchildren and the £50 amazon voucher I was given as a result of doing so...many thanks
Not a day goes by when I don't log on to Gransnet - apart from when I'm away on holiday. Gransnet and it's lovely band of sisters and the odd brother (not literally, of course!) can take the blame for my not getting dressed or making the bed until almost lunchtime some days!
I have received wonderful support from so many of you, and have been made to think seriously about issues that before, I may not have had the chance to discuss or consider, due to the fact I no longer work or often mix with like-minded people. I love Gransnet - long may she reign!

My favourite moment was when I got a call from Gransnet to ask me if I was willing to be interviewed for an article about Supernanny for the Radio Times. I was in a taxi with my daughter after she had been to hospital for tests on her unborn baby (which all turned out OK in the end). Gransnet asked me if I would be willing to have photos taken the next day. I muttered 'yes' - shocked. It was great fun and I was very proud to be interviewed on behalf of Gransnet!!
My favourite moment was in the lead up to the Christmas panto when Mamie was practising her choreography and brought her tarts can-can dancers as far as the French airport to perform, then gave up and went home. I laughed so much I had tears running down my face.
Just been reading it again - visions of knickerless dancers with legs behind ears.....! Hilarious!

Every single moment has been a joy, even the uncomfortable ones when I was unexpectedly in The Guardian in an article about sex and the over sixties!
I've laughed and cried with all these wonderful women and men, who make up this fantastic bunch of friends.
Thanks Gransnet,I've loved every minute!
Favourite GN moment? Lots!
On joining, being made to feel SO welcome.
Sharing the "secret" of my daughters pregnancy last July and the continued support through same pregnancy when I felt my DD had turned into an alien being!
Invaluable support through the traumas with my son.
Hallowe'en party!
Carol singing, such fun seeing the faces online.
Being able to GIVE support through these wonderful forums.
New year party!!
Gransnetters sharing my joy at GDs birth 15 days ago and all the good wishes.
The laughs we have shared, and even the tears, as I feel privileged to be among such wonderful company.
jingle the mind boggles on how it got in her pocket
ha ha forgot you told me you loved me at the New Years party.... mwahh
My favourite moment was when, at my most vulnerable and lonely, I knew beyond a shadow of doubt that I was not weak or bird-brained or worthless...or indeed, alone. Every individual Gransnetter, through the sharing of experiences, enriches the wellbeing of another. We all matter and life is sweeter for that fact. A huge thank you to everyone.
Favourite moment - hard to pinpoint, but support over the months
and also winning the Good Pub Guide [you can be sure I'm working hard to try to visit as many as possible!]

I joined nearly a year ago when I found out I was to be a long-distance Nana and very sad (v happy now). The best part of Gransnet is, the Grans! Being part of a lovely bunch of women who are old enough to know better, but sometimes (wisely) choose not to. It seems to me we all share the love and joy we have in our grandchildren whilst resolutely being our whole selves. Who cares if the man in the street only sees the wrinkles and grey hair (or dye), we know we're 100% fab! Cheers All!
Ooh, got a bit speechy there. Think I may be wearing 2 HRT patches, or 3...
when Gransnet started I still wasn't a Gran & my grandson finally arrived in Jan this year so we have both been through an interesting year
Glass, do you think we get an extra chance every time we post on this thread? If I win it, you can have the gin.
The virtual parties are special ...in particular the Hallow'een one! When I got back home, on my broomstick ...one of Bagitha's cats had hidden in my cauldron!! It wasn't until the next party that I could return the dratted thing!!
My daughter told me to try this site, of course I always obey her! And I am so glad I did. I have made such marvellous friends on here. You all cheer me up when I'm down. I've only to think of jing to end up rol
Ing on the floor, biting the carpet
I think the best bits have been the parties and don't forget the march! ( can anybody remember what we were marching for?)
And we mustn't forgetgreatnan's marvellous funny stories.
A very happy birthday and peace and goodwill to all.
Long may gransnet continue
I can't add much really as I have just joined gransnet recently. I have to say though the topic 'THIS MADE ME LAUGH' was so much fun to read on what had been a miserable day it made me feel I had made a really good move joining up. I love the kind words that are given when needed and the banter I hope to be a part of in the future. Happy birthday
Like jeni my daughter told me that I would like this site and she was absolutely right! Hours of fun, support, friendship, the feeling of knowing that I'm not alone in my worries and fears. Here's to the next year and thanks a million GN
I love that I can ask a question on your site and get an answer so quickly.Have recommended to all my friends who are "grannie" material.Happy birthday x
Standing at the end of the lane
Not searching for a plane
I didn't make a fuss
Looking up for the Gransnet bus
I had to get a grip
That there was to be no trip
We had all been so gay
Planning our virtual holiday
It had been so much fun
Writing about what could be done
Travelling the world with some nutty grans
Planning where we could get the best tans
I felt sadness and sorrow
But hey there was always tomorrow
There would be more laughs you can bet
With the funny grans from Gransnet.
Mine was the carol singing,it was lovely hearing the v oices and try ing to put faces to them. All the moments of sharing the joys and the heartaches, feeling part of a big group,it's a very special place. The next good moment will be when I finally get my finger out and learn how to post photos on my profile.
The highlight for me was getting a valentine's card for the first time in my life, from mysteryman who seems to have since disappeared into the ether! Ah well you can never rely on a man to stick around (still not convinced it wasn't jingl)
Other highlights: finding support when I need it, people to share my happiness with when good things happen, and laughing till the tears run down my cheeks at Greatnan and others' jokes.
I have found some kindred spirits, made good friends, and had some thought-provoking debates.
But overall the best bit for me is being able to sometimes forget I am a gran, or a mum, or a worker; but remember the girl I used to be and just have fun and be as silly as I like
It was somebody living on a flppin' house-boat!!!
I'm all for dry land!
Is that five, or six, goes I get now?
