So, it's World Poetry Day next week (Thursday 21 March) and we thought it would be fun to start a poetry thread.

All you have to do is post your best haikus/limericks/poems (no longer than 5 lines) about your grandchildren, DH/DP or anything family orientated.

We might even be able to rustle up a prize for the best one...

I think I would also like to say well done to everyone else, I am glad I did not have to be The Judge, because it would have been very hard.

The talent was truly amazing, I think xx

My Mum (80) and my Dad (85)
are fit and well and still alive.
My Dad keeps well out of the way,
when Mum wants to have her say,
they both eat fruit and greens and this is how they thrive.

what a moving piece this is , I read it and moved on thinking it was so sad but then found i was coming back to it and identifying so strongly with it and understanding our shared humanity thankyou

Gally Fri 22-Mar-13 06:56:42

Thank you everyone. I was very surprised but really delighted to hear the result especially as the poem came out in a bit of a rush from nowhere. I think I was feeling a little emotional about one thing and another that day hmm congratulations to everyone who entered fantastic poems flowers

Hey - as you probably already know, Judy Finnigan came in for a webchat today. Whilst she was here we asked if she could read out Gally's winning poem - you can watch the video clip here.

P.S. She absolutely loved the poem! Well done again Gally smile

Can you help me please?

I wrote a poem at the time of the "whisper" poetry competition.

I didn't save it before it disappeared! I have the first four lines before it "cyber-ed" It is called - " my grand daughter", and has about another 3 or 4 verses following this! I'm not very good at IT, and I've spent hours trying to find it!
Thank you friends.

Gramps x

When she was but a tiny child
I loved her from the start,
Her beautiful brown eyes
of me, became a part!
