Are you sure it will be this bad if I make, and eat, Nigella' s Guinness and chocolate cake? sad

Anne58 Mon 17-Mar-14 15:04:34

grin grin grin grin

Best not to risk it, Jingl

LucyGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 17-Mar-14 16:43:58

Think I'd always risk it for chocolate cake...

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 17-Mar-14 17:09:25

400 grams of sugar!!!

It will finish us off! shock

I am gonna have to be so restrained!

Ana Mon 17-Mar-14 17:12:01

I still want to know what 'stewed hordes' are!

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 17-Mar-14 17:24:19

You cannot whisk cocoa into guinness and melted butter without it going all over the kitchen table and the floor!

And how can you measure 142 mls soured cream out of a carton of 170 using a normal measuring jug? I've just put all of it in. hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 17-Mar-14 17:25:14

Oh fuckity-dos! I've done it wrong...

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 17-Mar-14 17:26:39

Oh well, so long as it's all in there.

Must be about fifty teaspoons of sugar. hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 17-Mar-14 17:26:57

At least!

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 17-Mar-14 17:28:10

See, if they had done it in proper ounces, I would have noticed that. hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 17-Mar-14 17:38:07

If that turns into a cake in the next hour I will be really surprised.

The raw mixture is absolutely gorgeous though!

I don't think I've ever made anything where you put a whole tablespoon of vanilla in.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 17-Mar-14 17:39:21

Perhaps I should have settled for colcannon. [worried]

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 17-Mar-14 17:41:21

No. I don't know what "stewed hordes" are. They couldn't have meant horses, could they? shock

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 17-Mar-14 17:47:53

I just licked the table to get the last bit up. shockblush

Will not lick floor.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 17-Mar-14 17:49:37

This thread could do with a shamrock

Galen Mon 17-Mar-14 17:53:42

No jing they probably meant hordes as in vandals or goths.
Imagining loads of grannies with goth hairdos and makeup?hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 17-Mar-14 17:55:31

Stewed? confused

Ana Mon 17-Mar-14 17:58:57

Perhaps it's hordes of wildebeest. Is stewed wildebeest a popular Irish dish? confused

Dragonfly1 Mon 17-Mar-14 18:09:20

If you google stewed hordes it appears to be a virtual food in the online World of Warcraft community. Surely that can't be right???

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 17-Mar-14 18:13:36

This is where I really wish this was a photo thread

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 17-Mar-14 18:15:31

Apparently "stewed" is a polite way of saying pissed grin

Not a drop has passed our lips though sad

The penalty for being stewed drunk in charge of Gransnet is no cake for a month

Ana Mon 17-Mar-14 18:16:03

What about the stewed hordes, Cari? hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 17-Mar-14 18:16:45

grin

Cari you have got to try this one. It's gonna be delicious, whether I cut or pour it. grin

Anne58 Mon 17-Mar-14 18:17:00

Could "stewed" in this context mean pissed slightly inebriated, tipsy squiffy etc?

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 17-Mar-14 18:18:19

In charge of Gransnet? No we have bolted the doors.

In general? Yes many, many "merry" people in the vicinity who should clearly be following our recipes to soak up some of their excesses

<realises walk to work tomorrow morning will be a case of dodge the pool of vomit>

The joys of London life eh?
