I've far too many lipsticks lurking in drawers that were go to when I bought them, but not since!

I know what it means, it just doesn't seem appropriate for a shade of lipstick!

It's more usually applied to a person (the go-to woman for a certain job) or something like a tried and tested remedy for a chesty cough...
