A Badge

It's not really Site Stuff - technically - but can I put in a request for a badge? The real pin on sort. I volunteer at a local stately pile and a lot of visitors just like to chat. I sometimes wonder if they could be GNers. It would be lovely if I could have a badge. Would anyone else wear one or is it a silly idea?

Um, probably not but it isn't a silly idea, especially as you meet a lot of people. Much better than the old bicycle clip on one leg like the secret ones. (Often wondered about their silly handshake too, how do they know the other person is one of them?)

We agreed to have a badge on our fishing forum. It's a very nice silver and blue enamel jobby and part of the proceeds from each one went to a cancer charity. So far, I have yet to meet anyone who else who either sports one, or recognises it, but it doesn't matter because the charity did very well out of it.
I suppose a badge would be useful for meet ups, superseding the white carnation and rolled up copy of the Times as a means of recognition

What a brilliant idea. I'd wear one!

That's a very snazzy badge Greyduster. Like it! And the charity idea is an excellent one too.

I find badges and pins a pain. I forget to swap them. A dingle dangle for my handbag (like Radley Dog) would-be preferable for me.

NfkDumpling Mon 10-Jul-17 17:52:18

Or a dingle dangle. Perhaps a choice. Although that may lead to merchandising with t-shirts, mugs and tea towels.

When I was a member of (the now defunct) Bad Mothers Club, we had a very discreet enamel badge, it was in the shape of a martini glass with a dummy in it blush

Better idea than secret handshake! grin That could lead to all sorts of kerfuffles.

(Or even arrest)

Greyduster Mon 10-Jul-17 18:21:46

Never thought of a dingle dangle - good idea, kitty. Only thing is, would it only work if you were carrying a handbag, and maybe NfK doesn't when she is volunteering? If we had a GN dangler, I would, of course, have to have a new handbag to put it on...... yes, very good idea, kitty! grin

NfkDumpling Mon 10-Jul-17 19:28:27

No I don't have my handbag when volunteering - but I could hang a dingle dangle on my volunteer badge. I think I'd prefer a dangler please GN.

Jane10 Mon 10-Jul-17 19:32:16

A badge for me please. I don't always have a handbag with me.
The GN biros we got at the Scottish meet up last year were lovely...

phoenix Mon 10-Jul-17 19:38:43

Ooooh, get you lot with your GN biros! envy

Us Southerners, especially in the South West, would be grateful for a goose quill, with GN etched into it with a sharp stick.

(Phoenix trundles off, mumbling)

Greyduster Mon 10-Jul-17 19:43:50

?!

Pittcity Mon 10-Jul-17 21:08:58

I have a couple of Scottish Gransnet biros here in Essex!

Jane10 Mon 10-Jul-17 21:16:14

I think katek got funding from a sponsor who commissioned the biros. Its an option open to other meet ups.
The biros were in party bags of goodies begged from sponsors by intrepid Grans.

gillybob Mon 10-Jul-17 21:17:45

Well you could hardly wiggle a biro at every unsuspecting person over 50 you see now could you? I didn't even know they existed.

An enamel pin would be nice but not a silly badge (please?)

Ana Mon 10-Jul-17 21:21:04

Some grans might...erm...miss a tiny enamel pin! Can't go around peering at other women's chests in public placces! grin

rosesarered Mon 10-Jul-17 21:24:10

What Scots Grans will do for a free biro.....grin I actually fancied a Gransnet cup and saucer or mug ( not that you could wave that about either) how about a silk scarf?

gillybob Mon 10-Jul-17 21:28:59

We could earn badges for comments on certain threads, a bit like old guides....

The politics badge, the gardening badge, the big mouth know it all badge, the cookery badge, the medical knowledge badge...... The possibilities at endless and some of us would need to have special sashes to display our vast array of badges grin

Ana Mon 10-Jul-17 21:36:19

I think there would be tough competition on the politics threads! grin

gillybob Mon 10-Jul-17 21:40:46

Yes there could be red politics badges, blue ones, green knew, yellow ones and rainbow ones (or would the rainbow ones be awarded for open mindedness????)

The could be bronze, silver and gold badges for the most prolific posters too.

And lifetime achievement award badges for those who, achieve lifetimes .

Oh this is fun..... there could be a simple Simon badge awarded for the most ridiculous post

merlotgran Mon 10-Jul-17 21:41:05

And a 'Kill the biggest number of threads badge?' grin

gillybob Mon 10-Jul-17 21:42:11

And looking at the spelling and grammar on my posts... The dunces badge.

phoenix Mon 10-Jul-17 21:47:20

gillybob, 're your post of 21.17, did you mean Boris or unsuspecting persons over 50? ,? (it was meant as a joke, btw, just in case anyone got the wrong impression.)

Oh sod it, I'll get me coat anyway!blush

phoenix Mon 10-Jul-17 21:53:15

What? How on earth did biros get changed to Boris???

That is just too surreal, I might need to have a lie down in a dark room.........
