Flaming - what is GNHQs approach to this?

I apologise for being far too easily tempted into replying to the 'flamers', but I do wonder if GN has any rules that apply to such posters.

A discussion on a thread, usually a politics one, can be bouncing backwards and forwards about the topic and then they turn up. There are only a few but you can recognise them by the way they never put forward an actual political argument. The most important thing they can come up with is personal criticism of either the politicians they have chosen as their target or the people who may be making positive point about the politics of that person or the party they don't like either.

This is not discussion but a deliberate attempt to inflame the thread in an attempt to derail the reasoned argument they don't like. On many forums they would be stopped from doing this. What, if anything, are GNHQs views on this. Surely, on a forum that has created a 'non-judgemental' space in the form of the café, we should expect flaming to be kept from disrupting other people's posts?

Don't reduce yourself to this level Annie. It's too sad to watch. You were never worried about wittering. You were just grabbing another opportunity to attack, attack, attack.

By the way, when do you go off duty and the next one come along? Elegran has lost the plot and is talking to herself so I think you are a man down.

Iam64 Sat 28-Oct-17 18:24:34

I try to avoid pedantry because its often beyond me but, I do believe that Elegran is a woman, I don't believe she's talking to herself and so I really don't believe we "are a man down".

I've had a very pleasant day and don't want to discombobulate myself so good evening all. wine well it is Saturday evening and almost 6.30 pm.

Perhaps this thread has gone on for long enough!

Chewbacca Sat 28-Oct-17 18:26:09

GGMK2 are you OK?

kittylester Sat 28-Oct-17 18:26:52

Nearly time for Strictly - see I told you I had a full life!!

POGS Sat 28-Oct-17 18:33:22

" I know why I am lying on the sofa playing with you all but I have to admit your lives seem a little lacking."

As I said earlier "Assessing who is a 'flamer', what constitutes a a post that is 'flaming', in other words is subjective and to be frank not even the OP can therefore be excluded from being thought of as a 'flamer' , no more than any other poster. "

Are you not giving rise to being called a 'flamer' GG MK2 or just being your usual self. I get confused.

It's all a load of twaddle really.

POGS Sat 28-Oct-17 18:34:51

kitty

Yep , Strictly time .

Jalima1108 Sat 28-Oct-17 18:35:53

Gracesgran you appear to be annoyed with everyone and attempting to derail your own thread.

I know why I am lying on the sofa playing with you all but I have to admit your lives seem a little lacking.
That is hilarious!! Well done!

Off to carry on with my busy life, no time for lying on the sofa in this house.

I won't watch Strictly tonight Kittylester - all that Hallowe'en hullaballoo annoys me. (spelling)
(not flaming, just answering another poster)

It's all a load of twaddle really.
That sums it up POGS

I thought that posting things, just to stir up an argument or to amuse yourself, was known as "trolling"?

GracesGranMK2 Sat 28-Oct-17 18:54:02

Perhaps this thread has gone on for long enough! That was pages ago MOMB, yet still they come.

GGMK2 are you OK? In the whole scheme of things, yes, thank you Chewbacca. These days I know what is happening and that I will feel better.

Careful or we will get into a long chat about the difference between a troll (although I don't think we are allowed to mention the word) and a flamer. That leads me on to -

Iam: you are quite right although I do not know the PC version of being "a man down", a person down perhaps.

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Sat 28-Oct-17 18:56:21

Just a reminder that we are all for heated and differing opinions. But keeping them civil is the key - disagree by all means but without resorting personal attacks or, as Laura mentioned earlier, setting out to inflame. And now I can smell my dinner burning so I am disappearing again...

GracesGranMK2 Sat 28-Oct-17 19:01:16

I knew we shouldn't have said the 't' word; I feel AI at work. I blame you Chewbacca grin

Anniebach Sat 28-Oct-17 19:15:20

Thank you .Primrose

Primrose65 Sat 28-Oct-17 19:27:09

I thought it would just be a 5-minute argument, but it has certainly turned into the full half hour!

Anniebach Sat 28-Oct-17 19:43:20

But so funny

MawBroon Sat 28-Oct-17 20:17:12

NanaandGrampy Sat 28-Oct-17 20:33:54

Atqui Sat 28-Oct-17 21:06:37

But please let's learn the difference between infer and imply .Or if I put that in pedants' corner will,it be a thread about a thread?

kittylester Sat 28-Oct-17 21:32:28

Surely, it must be a fire person!!

Yes, I think the correct term is 'Person overboard' these days, not 'Man overboard'

presumably in the olden days it didn't matter if a woman went overboard.

MawBroon Sat 28-Oct-17 23:36:53

Don’t they just say”oh sh*t, oops!” *jalima? grin
