Lengthy 'cut and paste' - acceptable or not?

It would be helpful for GN to make a decision on copy/cut/paste. GN should make a clear decision about whether they are allowed, and put a maximum length.

Personally I think it is much better to post a link- with perhaps the most saillant point/s 'cut and pasted' up to a maximum word length. The recent pages and pages are totally unacceptable imho, from either side or anywhere in between. Thank you.

To quote another poster I copy and paste wink
But just short quotes. and include the name of the poster.

MawBroon Fri 17-Aug-18 17:59:14

Jura2 the agenda was perfectly clear, unfortunately it got you nowhere.
Now Iamnotarobot has been treated like a pariah. I cannot believe that was your intention, but what a nasty 24 hours.

Chewbacca Fri 17-Aug-18 18:02:36

I don't understand why this has suddenly become an issue. We've always had some posters who post endless url links to get their point across, and others who post screeds of dialogue, and it hasn't ever been an issue before. Why has this suddenly changed and what provoked it?

MawBroon Fri 17-Aug-18 18:13:20

What prompted it?

I wonder...........

MawBroon Fri 17-Aug-18 18:14:24

Typical!
The didn’t work

Chewbacca Fri 17-Aug-18 18:27:12

Oh. I see now.

Jane10 Fri 17-Aug-18 18:36:02

Gosh well I don't!

Jalima1108 Fri 17-Aug-18 18:46:10

Iamnotarobot must be wondering what on earth hit her!!
Not a great welcome!

lemongrove Fri 17-Aug-18 18:59:05

What on earth are you talking about jura with all that about ‘ changing names’ ?!
Allygran is not Imnotarobot ( Imnotarobot is anti Conservative andAnti Brexit according to his/her posts) or hadn’t you noticed?
That aside, I often read cut and pastes, but will never read links. In the past on here, it led to many dodgy sites.

lemongrove Fri 17-Aug-18 19:01:13

So if all this was set up to stop Ally, it has mainly stopped Imnotarobot ( don’t think this was the intention) wink

MissAdventure Fri 17-Aug-18 19:04:49

Some miserable old faggots on here..
And that message was horrible!

Jalima1108 Fri 17-Aug-18 19:07:29

Lara
I can't see anything in the rules about not copying and pasting.
confused

MawBroon Fri 17-Aug-18 19:09:22

Exactly lemongrove
Not a great day for GN all because of a troublemaker.

jura2 Fri 17-Aug-18 19:37:31

Jalima, there is indeed nothing about it- but as GN was being inundated with so many lengthy 'cut and paste' recently- it was appropriate to ask for clarification. Lara understood and responded in a fair manner. No troube making there.

Your very personal attacks MB, are so obvious and so well, 'troublemaking' - and have been noticed by so many, with great puzzlement- as you are normally quite sensible and fair. I shall probably never know why you feel so strongly about me- but there you go. Sad indeed, but your problem, not mine.

But I am who I am- and would never try to change my identity. At least this is honest.

lemongrove Fri 17-Aug-18 19:42:53

Honest trying-to-get-rid-of -someone perhaps?
First I have heard about no copying and pasting on GN,
Now we shall get thousands of links.

jura2 Fri 17-Aug-18 19:45:35

Honest in seeking clarification from GN- done. No-one needs to be 'got rid of' - at all. And anyone tempted to post 1000s of links maybe should re-think, perhaps.

Chewbacca Fri 17-Aug-18 19:54:41

Who made you the arbiter of who, what and how posts are made jura? I'm astonished that you've gone to the time and trouble to report the posts of a newcomer "to seek clarification "; why would you need to do that? If you didn't like to see long posts; read past them. If you didn't like the content of the post; ignore it and move on.

And your last post just takes the biscuit: And anyone tempted to post 1000s of links maybe should re-think, perhaps.

I don't know who you think you are but your post to maw troublemaking and have been noticed by so many, with great puzzlement applies to you too.

lemongrove Fri 17-Aug-18 19:55:06

Durhamjen used to post thousands of links and didn’t need a rethink, there is no GN rule about it.I just didn’t read them.

Jane10 Fri 17-Aug-18 19:56:04

Why are you arguing about this? I don't understand why things have become so heated.

lemongrove Fri 17-Aug-18 20:00:17

Because it appears to be a new rule Jane and because of what lies behind it all.
Being able to copy and paste an article or part of one was interesting ( or not) and meant you didn’t have to leave the GN page to read it.

jura2 Fri 17-Aug-18 20:01:42

Jane, I do not understand this eiher.

Chewbacca, to be clear, I have not reported any posts at all recently. As for being the arbitre- again, not at all. Au contraire- which is why I simply ask for clarification from GN, and for them to decide- and Lara did and I thanked her. simple - no need for heat or personal attacks. That clarification, as was made very clear, applies to all- from whatever 'side' or pov.

jura2 Fri 17-Aug-18 20:04:25

It is still very appropriate for short cut and pastes, for the most saillant points, with a résumé, but not pages and pages- as has been the case recently. Simple enough- just re-read Lara's post.

What lies behind it all? Really?

lemongrove Fri 17-Aug-18 20:06:27

Why ask for ‘clarification’ at all?
But it’s done now and we will get only many, many links.
No need for it jura none at all.

jura2 Fri 17-Aug-18 20:28:47

Who makes you the arbitre or that lemongrove;) really?

I went through the proper channels and simply asked. Lara responded- as simple as that. No need for conspiracy theories, nastiness or personal attacks. No need, none at all, indeed.

Chewbacca Fri 17-Aug-18 20:34:11

I expect people will draw their own conclusions; but it's a great pity that a new member to the forum has felt so unwelcome, with all that's happened today, that's she's left GN.
