Lengthy 'cut and paste' - acceptable or not?

It would be helpful for GN to make a decision on copy/cut/paste. GN should make a clear decision about whether they are allowed, and put a maximum length.

Personally I think it is much better to post a link- with perhaps the most saillant point/s 'cut and pasted' up to a maximum word length. The recent pages and pages are totally unacceptable imho, from either side or anywhere in between. Thank you.

That is a shame indeed. Not sure who you mean - however, I am pretty sure she did not leave because I asked GN for clarification on lengthy 'cut and paste' posts.

Jura I earlier asked Lara why is cut & paste a problem but she didn't reply, so I'll ask you, as you started the thread and I'm genuinely perplexed, as to why a decision indeed a clear decision had to be made.

There's loads of rubbish on GN - what's so different about a bit of cut & paste? !! You didn't mention anything about the content so I assume it wasn't offensive/racist/personal in any way.

This is the poster Jura2

Great welcome to GN hmm she has since said she is leaving. sad

The message from GN was
You can not copy and paste large chunks of text from one website to another. We will delete any of your posts that do.Weve suspended your account until we hear from you that you understand.
As a new poster it is worth introducing yourself in a more personal way

So that’s what I’ve done.

merlotgran Fri 17-Aug-18 21:23:43

It's awful. What on earth has got into them at HQ?

They'd better not come back and pat us on the head with the offer of cupcake

jura2 Fri 17-Aug-18 21:33:29

Riverwalk, I asked because

a/ I felt it was detrimental to discussion and debate recently

b/ I did not feel it was up to me or any poster to decide, but for GN.

Simple enough. Now I do not know why GN sent that message to Iamnotarobot- at all. And you can't blame me for it either, at all.

jura2 Fri 17-Aug-18 21:34:29

MB, where did you see that post from Iamnotarobot?

BlueBelle Fri 17-Aug-18 21:43:39

It was on her thread about introductions

jura2 Fri 17-Aug-18 21:49:01

Tank you BlueBelle. BTW where is the introduction thread?

jura2 Fri 17-Aug-18 21:50:05

Thank you, sorry.

sodapop Fri 17-Aug-18 22:10:37

I think it was just unfortunate timing that the cut and paste thing came into force as iamnotarobot joined us.
The message from HQ sounded a bit harsh to a newcomer.
Correct me if it was something different.

FarNorth Fri 17-Aug-18 22:23:38

That gnhq message sounds harsh to anyone, new or not.
I've not been on GN today so don't know what's happened.

I have sometimes copy & pasted a lot of text because of a paywall. Indeed, at least once, it's been because someone asked what the text was as the link gave them nothing.

My tablet doesn't do italics, so I use "quote marks" if necessary.
Mumsnet uses bold for quotes and usually doesn't bold usernames. I quite like that way of doing it.

FarNorth Fri 17-Aug-18 22:25:36

"As a new poster it is worth introducing yourself in a more personal way"

I didn't introduce myself at all and I don't see why anyone should, unless they want to.

Jalima1108 Fri 17-Aug-18 22:40:08

FarNorth you can use these ^^^ to italicise - just don't leave any ^ spaces ^!

FarNorth Fri 17-Aug-18 23:41:09

testing

FarNorth Fri 17-Aug-18 23:41:59

I'm astonished! It's actually worked.
Couldn't get it to do it before.

FarNorth Fri 17-Aug-18 23:42:44

Thank you Jalima

trying

as said, my keyboard does not have square brackets

jura2 Sat 18-Aug-18 10:37:10

^ah, thanks, it works.^

jura2 Sat 18-Aug-18 10:40:32

But will just try and do as before and keep away. The accusations made here since I simply asked GN for clarification have been mind-boggling- and truly resembling a bile covered witch-hunt. How can I be responsible for just asking for clarification? It says an awful lot more about certain posters than about me, for sure. Sad indeed.

Jalima1108 Sat 18-Aug-18 10:42:42

Just make sure not to leave a gap which I have done on more than one occasion

^ like this ^!

Jalima1108 Sat 18-Aug-18 11:13:02

Goodness me, jura, I must have missed the accusations and the bile covered witch-hunt.

Surely GNHQ will delete such personal attacks, let's hope so.

Apologies to HQ if this is not acceptable but I think it needed to be said.

janeainsworth Sat 18-Aug-18 14:14:45

Bridgeit you weren’t the only one to have those thoughts, or mention it to HQ.

Bridgeit Sat 18-Aug-18 14:24:57

Ahh,thanks so much for posting, janeainsworth,
