Deleted PMs - This is important

I was concerned to find that some of my private messages around 20 December last year have disappeared, apparently “deleted at user request”.
Well I certainly did not delete them so the question is “which user” ?
How can anybody interfere with private messages- I thought the clue was in the name.
Izabella Annodomini and Lemongrove might like to check theirs too.
Coincidentally they were generally on the same topic.
Is Big Brother not only watching us but censoring our mail?
I take a dim view of this breach of confidentiality if that is indeed the case .

Jalima

I tried to post my message and it says the same!

I don't get it!

POGS Thu 21-Feb-19 14:37:45

Jalima

I received your message and returned pm.

I will try again to send one from me to you.

Jalima1108 Thu 21-Feb-19 14:19:04

I just sent one to you - just to test the system. Will it get through?

POGS Thu 21-Feb-19 14:16:09

Jalima

When I press send it displays:-

' Sorry. We can' t deliver your pm as this user,: Jalima is currently unable to receive your PM's '

BlueBelle Thu 21-Feb-19 14:11:02

But RachelleGransNet your comment is totally incorrect
‘no one is deleting anyones Pms except the sender or receiver’
How then do account for Pm s being deleted when neither person has requested it
Please come back and explain this It’s very important

Jalima1108 Thu 21-Feb-19 14:07:36

POGS Thanks for that - what is going on? I am happy to receive messages!

Rachella ??

Elegran Thu 21-Feb-19 14:04:34

I think Melanieeastanglia must have deleted all her messages, because I have one from her that is deleted in my inbox.

POGS Thu 21-Feb-19 14:04:31

Jalima

I just tried to pm you and I was sorry to see you ' cannot receive messages'.

I hope you have a rethink.

Jalima1108 Thu 21-Feb-19 13:44:55

But it still doesn't explain why it should be deleted in someone's inbox.

lemongrove Thu 21-Feb-19 13:40:52

I deleted all older messages GG to tidy up my inbox, resulting on you getting the deleted by user message, that’s all it is.
When you delete old messages, you don’t get that message yourself, but the person you sent it to does.

GabriellaG54 Thu 21-Feb-19 13:27:27

I've never requested any deletions.

GabriellaG54 Thu 21-Feb-19 13:26:46

Just looked at my PMs and 3 in Dec to Melanieeastanglia , 2 on different dates in Nov to someone else and 1 to lemongrove all deleted at users request.
Odd, that there are some messages untouched between those deleted ones.

Just a quick reassurance that this is a tech issue. No one is deleting anyone's PM except the sender or receiver. You can rest assured that your messages are, indeed, PMs (private messages).

Elegran Wed 20-Feb-19 20:42:46

If it is a system procedure, not a conscious act by a moderator, the messages will still be private, in the sense that they have not been read by anyone other than sender and receiver.

I’ve only just discovered this thread and have taken a look at my inbox and sent messages. I see that several messages to and from one of the posters mentioned by Chewbacca on the first page have been “removed at user request”. There were two exchanges, in November and way back in March. These would certainly would not have been contentious.
I will PM the user now and see what happens. So does PM actually stand for “private message”? Something of a misnomer I feel.

The thread was already very long when I came across it so I have only read the first couple of pages.

I await HQ’s comments with interest.

Jalima1108 Wed 20-Feb-19 20:00:17

I somewhat naively thought that PM meant Private Message. Clearly they are not.
Just about sums it up Synonymous!

Synonymous Wed 20-Feb-19 19:57:46

How very interesting this all is!
I somewhat naively thought that PM meant Private Message. Clearly they are not.
I had all of my messages deleted from my inbox ages ago supposedly at the request of the senders. I was very hurt and felt I had been made invisible and of no account, affecting me quite badly for a while. If it is an official way of making space on the system it is a horrible way to do it.

Jalima1108 Wed 20-Feb-19 19:50:47

it's all very odd.

BlueBelle Wed 20-Feb-19 19:46:39

Oh thanks yes I know now

I still have no understanding howit happened to me in the middle of a conversation with neither of us doing anything

Jalima1108 Wed 20-Feb-19 19:31:49

It's the new General Data Protection Regulation Bluebelle

eugdpr.org/

BlueBelle Wed 20-Feb-19 19:27:44

Sorry what’s GDPR ?

POGS Wed 20-Feb-19 19:27:37

Rachel

I literally have just ' binned' 2 pm's and there was no term displayed saying :-

' This message has been removed at user request'

THE USUAL happened and the 2 pm's simple vanished from my list!

Sorry but nothing is stacking up and I cannot agree with GNHQ tec department.

It is noticeable to me certain gn users are showing :-

' This message has been removed at user request'

POGS Wed 20-Feb-19 19:13:38

Rachell

Thank you for your honesty.

Off to test it now.

RachellaGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 20-Feb-19 16:19:25

POGS I had to check with our tech team to make sure that I was answering your query correctly, so thank you for your patience.

The message you are receiving: "This message has been removed at user request" is fairly recent since GDPR has been in effect.

Fennel Wed 20-Feb-19 13:42:52

From Elegran:
"Fennel Are you sure that Jalima's messages of 5th and 6th Nov were deleted then, ? Maybe they were sent then and deleted yesterday when she was clearing things?"
No I'm not sure Elegran - I only looked this morning, I don't use pms much.
