...can we swear before being branded "potty mouthed". Please.

Chewbacca Fri 22-Mar-19 21:24:06

Let's hope that those who are scared of this thread don't wander across to Mumsnet then littleannie. It'll frighten the living daylights out of them over there!

I misread the words on those socks and got them in the wrong order ... and then I wondered if davidh might wears them when he's with nice ladies. wink

This might be an American site (I’m in America right now) but if you google ‘I’m a delicate fucking flower socks’ several sites come up & I’ve found that American sites often ship to the U.K. at little cost.
I’d love to see your grandsons’ reaction grin

merlotgran Fri 22-Mar-19 22:19:09

Thanks, janea. I found a site that does PayPal. My brother is taking us all out to lunch next Friday and we're meeting here for coffee first so I'll wear them with my gardening leggings and see how long it takes before they wonder why I'm not dressed to go out. grin

My favourite expletives come courtesy of the wonderful Billy Connolly. No - not THAT one.

His expletive used around his children when they were young, was Gettyfuh, often accompanied with yabassa.

Said in his lovely Scottish accent, it hits the spot grin

paddyann Sat 23-Mar-19 01:09:36

Davidh I dont swear ,never have ,no one who comes into my home swears because they know I dont like it.I know my children swear when they are with their friends and thats their choice but I dont need to hear it .It doesn't make me a "nice woman" though just one who has a large enough vocabulary so I dont have to resort to swearing .My late father would never have used foul language at home and my OH is the same .Its simple respect .

BlueBelle Sat 23-Mar-19 05:06:26

David what do you mean by ‘nice’ women who in the world wants to be a ‘nice’ Fokker that sounds so Victorian

I love Billy Connolly telling a story he just has a great way of using his words I also really think the Irish Fekker has a ring to it
It’s only words and anything that relieves stress is good
What I don’t like is someone man or woman who has so small a vocabulary that they use f as every second word
I love this thread but hate the term ‘potty mouthed’ sounds so twee

I swear like a trooper, always did. I came from an east end London family, my branch of which was desperately trying to "better" itself ?unfortunately my mother forgot this when in s temper and would have made a sailor blush, so I learned it all at her knee.
Tried to rein it in in front of the children when I had them, but then brought them to Australia where the f word is used in anger, confusion, endearment, excitement and any other situation you can think of! As a verb, noun and adjective.
We're all educated and very articulate in my family, but there are so many occasions when only the f word truly covers it.
I draw the line at the c word. Misogynistic in my view. See, I do have standards ?

sodapop Sat 23-Mar-19 06:31:03

When I joined my family Whatsapp group my granddaughter said to my grandson
' no swearing now Billy, Nanny is on here' I'm a delicate little plant apparently !!!

DanniRae Sat 23-Mar-19 08:56:35

I love saying feck or more likely feck off when I have cause to be a little annoyed. I use the big gun.......F*ck........ when I am very annoyed and nothing else will do!

lovebeigecardigans1955 Sat 23-Mar-19 08:59:43

Ha ha! Surely it depends on much you have to put up with on a daily basis? The more frustrating the day, the fruitier the language.

Littleannie Sat 23-Mar-19 09:04:21

Chewbacca
I should think the members who are scared of voicing an opinion are those who think they will be ridiculed, like David, who sounds a decent gentleman to me.
In my opinion, people who swear are those who are uneducated and have a limited vocabulary. There, now you can ridicule me some more. Unless of course you are all behind the bike sheds giggling like a lot of silly schoolchildren, while saying rude words.

Littleannie Sat 23-Mar-19 09:05:29

And well said paddyann.

Anniebach Sat 23-Mar-19 09:08:35

I dislike swearing, see no need for it

merlotgran Sat 23-Mar-19 09:45:20

Take care, Littleannie You might need some help getting off your high horse.

I took this to be a light hearted thread but then maybe not as there seems to be a need to identify them as such in the thread titles these days. hmm

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Sat 23-Mar-19 09:52:46

If anyone genuinely wants to know grin there is a guide in our netiquette. There are certain words that are never acceptable. The rest...well, on the basis we are all grown ups it's not an issue* though over-liberal sprinklings may not be looked at in the same way.

*we know from reports that there are some users for whom all swear words are offensive. On this basis it would be best to use sparingly if possible. Everyone's tolerance is different

Littleannie Sat 23-Mar-19 09:53:08

I'd rather be on a high horse than in the gutter merlotgran.

Gonegirl Sat 23-Mar-19 09:56:50

Nobody really wants to know CariGN. I meant it to be a fun thread. I'm sorry. blushblushblush

Like most of my ideas, it might have been a bad one. hmm

Gonegirl Sat 23-Mar-19 09:57:35

And I will never swear again in my life!

Gonegirl Sat 23-Mar-19 09:58:10

Oh shite! My tea's gone over my keyboard now. Sigh.

Gonegirl Sat 23-Mar-19 09:59:15

that's not swearing....

BlueBelle Sat 23-Mar-19 10:01:06

Anyone like Fascinating Aida I love their little ditties made all the funnier because they are ‘posh’

merlotgran Sat 23-Mar-19 10:01:28

Pardon me for stating the obvious but is it not possible for people who find all swear words offensive to stay off threads that are taking the piss mickey out of those very words which have no serious intent in this context?

No need to distress yourselves.
